And while we're talking about soft drinks if you hate root beer this would probably literally kill you. It's a traditional Maine beverage (lol) so I grew up loving it, but some people claim it tastes like actual tree bark. Not that they've ever tasted tree bark, I hope. But IT'S JUST THAT VILE.

I'm sorry I yelled when you said you hated root beer. I was just in a shocked emotional state, and it was hard to understand at first. But I guess not everyone will like it, and I have to respect that. Is it still okay if I come to Austin?

I also have a friend who lives in Texas... though he doesn't live in Austin and we're not close enough for it to be natural to ask my parents if I could just go home with him for a few weeks just on vacation, haha. But I guess he's still a possibility. I've also been thinking of secretly getting a job (without telling my parents, so I wouldn't have to explain what I've done with all the income that they would know nothing about in the first place if I just didn't tell them I got a job) to pay for a plane ticket. That might work, but as expensive as I think a plane ticket will be it will probably be even more expensive than that. Anyway, these are all ideas worth testing out for now, and I'm still trying to think of more... because this would make my life if it could actually happen.

Ahhh you are so kind. I could never accept money from you for such a thing, but the fact that you would even offer is one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me. Seriously, I can't thank you enough. I really want this to work, though... I drive, but I don't have a car at the moment and a trek like that would probably be difficult (though I'd be more than willing to attempt it!). While most of my friends wouldn't even consider the idea, I have one who just might be bold enough to ask. That's still a huge maybe though, even as bold and nice as he is I don't even know if he would be ready for a devious adventure of that magnitude. Though he has a brother who's pretty much the same way, and who's even more of a music person, so maybe if I proposed the idea to both of them... I'm not sure, I'll see what I can do though.

Seriously though, I need to start thinking of how to get to Austin. That will be my goal for 2011! I'll try to have a rough plan ready to send along with your birthday/Christmas/Hannukah-ish/January letter/card/package/present. Hmm. (I really really really want this to happen.)

I'm glad you like the recordings and have figured out how to listen to them! I'm not a big fan of Albanian and Gamelan. But the most recent live bootleg (Live at Troxy, London December 14, 2010) also has Albanian and Gamelan. They've made them so much more dark and mysterious. I like the Troxy versions better than the l'Olympic ones. Also, why can't you see Godspeed live? Don't they have a show near you? :(

And that version of Motherfucker=Redeemer you're listening to is one BIG jam session. I will stop ranting now.

Oh Chestar, I was going to upload that one next! That Dead Flag Blues Outro is stunning and probably one of my favorite Godspeed recordings, and that's probably my fay-fritt version of Albanian. I recall when I was just a youngster I believe it was Chestar who linked me to that very recording many a month ago, which was my first experience with their live stuff. It's incredible.

Hey. I'm not sure if you already have the Godspeed live fix you so desperately craved in Stuarts box of shout, but myself and many other Godspeed fans believe the Live At L'Olympic 2003-05-14 are the best live recordings. This contains Gamelan and Albanian (unreleased songs), a great version of Dead Metheny and a beautiful Dead Flag Blues outro.

I also received your beautiful card today, I was grinning like an idiot when my dad gave it to me, like why have you got a card from Austin? it's standing proudly on my record player and it will make me happy for the whole of January. I think the cards I send are going to end up being Happy February cards, maybe one day that'll be a real thing.

Also, I'm not sure if you saw these links but you may want to check them out at sometime. No pressure of course, but they're there just in case.

And I'm glad you have the VPRO Sessions, it's not a true 'live' recording but it's quite possibly the best non-studio recording of theirs I've heard.

(But alas, it's one less song I can use on your mix... I actually decided this morning while taking a walk that I was going to use a live version of the song "Albanian," which doesn't appear on any of their studio albums... but that's okay, this way you'll hear it in context and you won't have to endure a 15+ minute song in the middle of a mix, haha.)

That's so awesome, I'm glad you like them as much as you do. As far as live recordings go, there are a few that I'd recommend... though to be honest they might require a bit of work to convert to listen-able files. So... I'll upload them in simple .zip folders to send to you, if that's okay? It's hard to choose just one, but I'll see what I can do. Maybe I could send you my favorite first, and then a few others just so you have them. They each put the band in an entirely new perspective, it's incredible.

Oh god, drugs. Well, Sarah, I suppose we HAVE to have this conversation. Drugs are not good for you. I know that being a famous DJ has put you in places where drugs are being consumed in large quantities, but you cannot cave in to the peer pressure. One day you're saying 'oh it's just XTC, I'll try it once and never use it again' and the next thing you know you are crawling through a carpet store going 'OH GOD THIS FEELS SOOOHOO GOOHOOOD!!'. Do I make myself clear, young lady?

I've just realised I never replied to your last shout, everything I read late at night and don't reply to straight away seems to get shoved in the section of my brain where memories of dreams are. I vaguely remember it but I don't really think of it as something that actually happened, or rather as something that was actually there. Anyway it's really good news about your radio show, i'll definitely listen when you find out your time slot.

As an official DJ I suggest you see this at some point. I haven't seen it in a while and it's possible that you might not like it but I remember enjoying it quite a bit.

Nah, it's okay, I'm actually not much of a Weezer person at all these days. But I figured that might just be my only chance to even remotely use those lyrics naturally in real life, haha.

"I asked you to go to the Green Day concert, you said you never heard of them. How cool is that? So I went through your room and read your diary. 'Watching Grunge leg-drop New Jack through a press table...', and then my heart stopped: 'listening to Cio-Cio San fall in love all over again.'"

I've been trying to make you a mix as well (man, I should stop talking and leave some of this up to surprise) but you've already heard EVERYTHING. I'll just have to make you a Green Day anthology instead.

I don't know, I've made CDs for the car before which my mom and brother generally tolerate. But if I ever play anything noisy or anything with questionable lyrics or anything experimental she gets uneasy. I don't even bother playing anything when my dad's in the car, haha. And I can't ask for music as gifts because 1) they understand none of it and 2) they'd have no idea where to look for it. It's strange.

Hah, I had remembered you saying something about having been "raised Jewish-ish for a while." So sorry if my sending Christmas wishes was offensive in any way. But I know what I want to send you as part of your latechristmashappynewyearhappyjanuaryandespeciallyhappybirthday present!
