AHHH I'M SO GLAD YOU WATCHED IT. It's so funny, I keep remembering lines from it that make me laugh. I'm impressed by your roommate, I managed to watch 2 seasons of 30 rock over a week once but it's taken me about 5 years to watch the rest of it. I've just started watching Freaks and Geeks! by just I mean like 2 months ago. I keep starting shows on netflix and then forgetting about them because I get distracted by all the other shows on there.

I will definitely watch Party Down. I've been watching a huge amount of tv recently (and by recently I mean always), I've just finished Orange is the new black on netflix which is hilarious/brilliant if you haven't already seen it. I started to write a list of my favourite tv shows but it was far too long, Parks and Rec is really good, and 30 Rock and Arrested Development.

.., and all these things are far more important than work. I actually know the satisfaction, not of cleaning out closets, but simply of cleaning. It's a terrible reflection on me, but I'm very fastidious, I like things orderly and in their right places. Maybe I could marry that woman, we could start a closet-cleaning company together, and clean even closet in U.S. We'd be HAPPY. Or perhaps just doing everything within our power to stave off our feelings of intense misery at the emptiness inherent in both our lives. Probably that. Hope all is well in N'awlins, Sarah.

... I see no problem wallowing over personal concerns, over one's relationship with others, perhaps over one's personality; in short, those things in life which are actually of importance, but over possessions, over things? It's tragic. What are you doing for your other job? I'm doing some photography work for the company my father works for this summer. They're a subsidiary to a big French car manufacturer called Peugeot (I don't think you get them in America, right?). I take stock photographs of car parts (currently their wondrous and inspiring range of air filters), resize the image, apply the watermark logo, and then upload them to their e-catalogue. Like this. It's monotonous, but allows time for me to use my imagination. Besides work, which I've only begun this past week, I've been to Sweden, to Denmark, and have plans to go to Scotland early next month with Sophie. I turn 21 in a number of weeks..

Sar-heh. That's cool. I remember now, tearing apart lots of magazines and newspapers to make those cards. Isn't Christmas one of the most beautiful times of year? I always feel such an acute sense of camaraderie with almost everybody during winter. It must be the darker nights and the cold weather; draws people closer together, or something. I sound so silly when I talk like this. I find myself hilarious; in a bad way. I think I watched some video once on DIY DNA extraction; am I right in thinking you can do it with vodka, a swab of saliva, and a few other things? You guys probably do it the fancy 'proper' way in the lab. Science, huh. Can I ask what PCR is? That woman sounds crazy. Emerson once remarked of Thoreau that he "made himself rich, by making his wants few", something I often call to mind when confronted with people who aren't content with their luxurious lifestyles....

As for my dancing credentials, you'll have to ask Sophie if I do the 'standard white guy arms crossed and head nodding' routine at concerts. We both went to see The Postal Service on Saturday. I definitely nodded my head a little, but I'm not sure I did it with my arms crossed. Breaking boundaries. I remember you talking about that snow machine on your university campus. I find it hilarious. I think I posted this forever ago, but I made this guy about three years ago. He was about 12 foot tall, and my brother and I used a ladder to complete him. I loved him so much. The day he died was an absolute tragedy. I was thrown into intense turmoil.

Sarah LaPotin: I'm pretty much one of the worst type of people. Sorry for not replying to your last shouts; I really am terrible, particularly when our conversations bring me such a lot of joy. Amongst other things, you asked me if I had any pets. I have an aviary in my bedroom, where I keep Japanese Cranes. There's too many of them for me to recount their names to you, but they're quite wonderful, I assure you. I also have a snow owl at home named Viktor. I'm very childish really. I once had two hamsters named Bert and Smudge, but that was a very long time ago now. The closest thing I have to a pet now is a cat that visits my house at least once a week; it's evident that it belongs to somebody else, but it appears to rather like my company (god only knows why). I just call it 'Cat'; Cat is mostly grey, with these lovely piercing eyes.

That sounds absolutely lovely. I really would love to do some traveling myself; I feel like I rarely get to travel anywhere interesting. I miss college so much! That's great that you enjoy it so much. I've been out of college for almost a year now, and I'm still not 100% sure what I want to do for grad school. I've been considering music journalism, but that's a difficult field to get into. I've also been thinking about pursuing English and maybe being a college professor one day, but I'm still not completely sure. I feel like music is what I'm passionate about the most in life. On the other hand, I want a rewarding career that would greatly help other people, which is why I admire teaching so much as a profession. I'm indecisive, so I'm taking time to consider this more.

That sounds fun. I want to go camping this summer too. My friend and I were talking about going to walk Mount Snowdon (in Wales). We went last year but didn't reach the top because of the weather. Not wanting to be defeated, we have tentative plans to go again this year. I love sleeping in a tent. Good luck (again) for the grant. I have my (metaphorical) fingers crossed for you.

Aye, I can't wait to see Marcus's daughter. I bet she's awesome. I've never been to Scandinavia, so it'll be really exciting. Further east I've ever been is (I think) Croatia. Europe's nice, you'd like it I guess. Beautiful cities, mountains, countryside, it's all quite lovely. Yes, I'm lucky I guess, I've met quite a few people from this website. It seems odd to me, but Sophie and I are good friends as a direct result of this website. We went to same college, lived about ten minutes from one another, but didn't know of each others existence until speaking on here. I've never found the transition from internet to real life strange. Meeting somebody from the internet has always seemed really natural to me, just like an extension of this (or any other) conversation. You and Stuart should still try to meet up. I'm sure you'd have the best time. I still long for a whole group meet-up one day.

I think that's pretty common; there must be some human psychology which encourages a desire to fit in, and naturally, one's language is a good place to begin, hence trying to replicate the accent you hear. I tend to do it with my friends. Three of them are from Yorkshire, so have thick-ish Northern accents; I pick up odd words here and there, and find myself pronouncing words differently around them. Conversely, when I'm with my southern friend, I tend to speak much more refined English. Birmingham is the second largest city in England, I believe. Is Birmingham, Alabama large?

Krumping is actually a pretty basic move. I picked it up in a few days at the start of my first year here. We're onto much more complicated moves now, fortunately. Best advice I can offer you for krumping is to really loosen up, let your arms flail. You'll get it one day, Sarah. I'm going to write a book about dancing when I'm older.

Please don't send me parasitic fungi. They remind me of this. I only read the finest literature as a child. I don't know... I'm not easily bored, I assure you. What is it that's particularly interesting about the poison frogs? Or the fungi, for that matter? Want a really good joke for your first day in the lab, to win over all the scientists working there? Q. Why did the mushroom always get invited to parties? A. Because he's a fungi. I'm ashamed of myself for writing that out. Haha. I think Sophie once said I look like Kyle Maclachlan, but that's hugely complimentary because I mostly just look ridiculous. There's a photograph of me somewhere in Melanie's shoutbox if you're desperate to compare my appearance to that of Cooper. I promise to film that dance routine once my belted jumper is complete. Envisaging myself dancing is just about the most ridiculous scene I can imagine. I've never really danced in my life.

Sear-hah. Why aren't you sleeping? Insanity is absolutely fine by me. In fact, it's conductive to interesting conversation. You're right... Alina is a lovely name. Sarah is okay, nothing special though, like the 'Simon' of the female-name-world; common enough to be uninteresting, but not exactly awful either. Anyway, sorry for criticising your name. My cousin is called Sarah too; she's training to become a nurse, and is from Bristol, not Austin. Definitely. In fact, saying any word repetitively to yourself makes it sound absurd. Melted shoe and burnt hair is pretty cool, I'm not sure I can top that. I've thrown deodorant cans onto fires and watched them explode. Also, when I was at secondary school (and I'm ashamed of this, now) my friends and I stole this weird historical costume from one of the history classrooms and burnt it in the park later that day. I've no idea why. I was an idiot at secondary school.

I haven't really any plans for summer. I'm trying to work out a trip to Sweden to see Marcus, though, which should be wonderful. I would love to visit N'awlins. I actually checked the flights, and it'd cost be about £800 ($1200?). You're cool, Sarah, but your company isn't worth that much. (I jest). But hey, can we make a pact to meet at least once in our life? Even if it's when we're both old, decrepit and half-dead. What plans do you have for summer besides your research placement?

Those belted jumpers are magnificent. I can knit, so naturally I'm going to try and make one soon. I'll be the height of fashion, walking about the University campus adorned with such an item of clothing. I hope that, when you're in the research lab over summer, you ensure to check the reaction in Strawberry Poison Frogs of a fully grown natural beard upon a mannequin. I WANT RESULTS, SARAH.

Damn. I have no idea what Irish tea is. You'll have to ask your friend if he knows. Ah, Marmite is amazing. Do try some (if it's vegan, that is). It's got the strangest taste, but is really wonderful on toast (I think). I can't think of a good example, but there's a long standing joke in England that something which everybody either loves or hates is 'like marmite'. You really are British. How do you feel about your new-found citizenship? Jolly proud, I should hope.

Haha, yes. I have nostalgic memories of 'gross candy and chips' (gross sweets and crisps) from gas stations (petrol stations) when driving on holiday somewhere with my family. Are hurricanes commonplace down south? I've never experienced one ever. The most extreme weather we get is probably snow. Have you still not ever seen snow? That needs to be rectified.

Birmingham, Alabama? I'm from Birmingham, England. 5.5 hours sounds a long time to me; though Bloc was right when he said the British have no conception of long drives. You could drive the length of England in about six hours, maybe the whole of England and Scotland in ten. I don't know about British people in general, but I know roughly where all of those places are. I find southern American accents hilarious, is that wrong of me? I wish I could spend a day talking to your boyfriend's family. Most people here forget Hull exists too. It's an old industrial town on the east coast, looking out onto the North sea. It's been in severe decline since the fall of its shipbuilding industry after WWII. It's rather sad. You know Venn diagrams, the circles? Well, John Venn was born in Hull. As was Wilberforce, responsible for the abolition of the slave trade in England. Here's a photograph taken by my friend when we walked along the old docks last year.

Parasitic fungi sound so sinister. That research will be a whole lot of fun, I'd expect. I hope you get onto the grant scheme you mentioned the other day. What specifically are you hoping to discover about them? Or do you not know the specifics yet? It's my last year at University next year too (I assume that's what senior means, right?), and I don't want it to end either. Courses at British Universities are only three years, am I right in thinking yours are four? I'm currently giving some consideration to staying on after my degree to do a masters degree, partly because I really love my subject, and partly because I want to prolong my time here. You're right; I study Contemporary Dance. I was a bit sceptical about the worth of such a degree to begin with, but studying here has really opened up my eyes to the possibility of expression through the medium of the human form. I only communicate through interpretive dance routines now. My housemates can't stand it.

Yo Sarah. That's cool. What's your sister's name? I've got a brother, but he can't unicycle, so he's definitely not a very good sibling, by all accounts. That acetone incident sounds like fun. I once sprayed a deodorant can into a little cup for a minute or so, until all the vapour had condensed on the sides into a liquid, I then set the fluid alight and went to throw it, not realising that to throw it would involve pulling my arm back and in so-doing, tipping the contents, still alight, all over my arm. That was probably in the list of top 15 dumbest things I've done (most of that list involves fire).

That's cool. Nothing wrong with more upbeat music if it's reflection of the way you're feeling. I've become a little less prejudiced with music nowadays, I hope. I used to shy away from rap and hip-hop and electronic music for no substantial reason besides some preconceived notion of what such music might sound like; I'm much more open now, which is good. Where did you go on your road trip? I don't feel like I've ever really gone on a spontaneous adventure and felt that strong sense of existence and fluidity which Kerouac et al wrote about so well. Alas.

Making those pictures was excellent fun, yes. I believe that was Chester. It's a masterpiece, though you're right to say Bloc's was even better. I wish I still had that. I just found this, too. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying yourself so much. You're studying some kind of environmental science, right? It sounds fascinating, and certainly something that - should you work in the field when you're older - allow you to travel a lot. I have no idea what I want to do in the future, but for now, I'm really content learning as an end in itself. Too many people go to University thinking only of the career they want afterwards, I'm just happy to be in education. You should get yourself a tent and camp for a week whilst homeless. Alternately, there's always a free sofa here in Hull, should you be passing through. A ditch could be just as welcoming, though.

That video was so awesome, Sarah. I can do basic juggling, but can't do any of those cool variations. You've got the best smile too, really. I wish my University had a juggling club. Sarah and Simon's Circus Extravaganza has a certain ring to it, don't you think? Sophie also happens to have a Unicycle which I'm sure she'd let us borrow. Can you do tight rope walking/fire eating? Then again, what self-respecting person can't eat fire?

My music taste is always changing. I barely listen to Modest Mouse anymore either. I still love and revere them, but I never feel the compulsion to listen to them, as I used to. Alas. All the same, I'm seeing them twice this summer. What have you been listening to most lately? I've been listening rather obsessively to Sufjan, as well as a whole lot of ambient music. I still listen to Phil, and suspect I always shall.

Dear Sarah. Isn't Stuart wonderful? I'd never seen that Radiohead comment. It's inspired. I still have this photograph, which I treasure beyond all of my worldly possessions. Likewise, I happened to keep this and this. God only knows why. If somebody were to look through that particular folder on my laptop, I suspect I should have some very uncomfortable questions to answer. I've been well. How have you been? Has anything of particular note happened to you? My life is much the same as it's always been, besides having moved into a house at University with a few friends. I don't know what you've missed... Did you know Marcus and Silje have had a child together? Isn't that beautiful? I can still do backflips. Can you still do handstands? We should hang out and do backflips and handstands for a whole day.
