I think you're right to ignore your future if you want your future to be just like your present, right? The reason that people move around, that people seek new friends, new places, a change of scene, is because they're looking for something, I think. If you've stopped looking for those things, Sarah, then stay right where you are, because you've everything you need to remain happy. I don't want to give you some terrible advice there...something which might drastically affect the rest of your life... I just think it's important that people value happiness over all else. We'd live in a really beautiful world if everybody lived like that.

You must be at Bonnaroo by now, which is kind of strange to think about; to imagine quite where you are; which amazing band you are watching right at this very moment. I hope you have the absolute best time, and you must tell me all about it once you're back! I'd love to hear all the details, if you want to share them, of course. I hope that the road trip with your friends was the best, and that everything goes really smoothly. The line up looks pretty incredible.

It's fine! I get a little carried away talking about books anyway, so I was glad to be given the opportunity. I'm sorry I picked a load of really obvious books... I tend to read classics more than anything else, so I can't say I know much in the way of modern literature, thus meaning all my choices are the well-known books which everybody has heard of. I guess they're classics for a reason though. I hope you enjoy at least one of my recommendations.

That sounds awesome! We have carrots, potatoes, radishes and green beans, I believe, as well as the strawberries which I have kind of been in charge of lately. I love growing things in the garden, it's so rewarding to be able to eat your own food, don't you think? It's grown about twenty feet from the kitchen table, that's so awesome.

I know, Sarah. It's shameful. The only good thing I have to say for myself is that it's taught me a valuable lesson and I'd attempt nothing of the sort these days. I'm quite embarrassed by the person I used to be, perhaps even the person I am now. I don't know. I sometimes find it too easy to forget about who I am, and instead simply focus on life, about the most basic of decisions in front of me, rather than who I hope to be and how I hope to act. I'm under the false impression that everything will come with time, so I put everything off, when I really need to start my life, well.... now. I guess. Sorry. This is nonsense.

Why thank you! I see you've been/are listening to the Decemberists. I'm seeing them live in just 10 days! So stoked. Also, lately I've been meaning to listen to more of The Microphones. I absolutely love "The Glow, Part 2" and I basically have the whole discography. I was wondering if you could suggest some Mount Eerie albums for me? I have "No Flashlight" already, but I think Phil Elverum is brilliant and want to get into his music more.

I forgot to answer/ask several questions of yours, and several of mine. Firstly, I meant to ask how you found of Montreal, I've heard they are absolutely insane live, and that kind of sounded interesting. I've not really listened to them much myself, I just remember Kevin as being the grumpy astrologer in Julian's Pluto video. Secondly, I start university in September, if all goes to plan. When do you begin again, Sarah? Thirdly, I have just booked tickets to see Jeff Mangum in London. Excited is an understatement.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just a little jealous of your life at the minute, Sarah. It sounds wonderful to be around all your friends, to relax in these gorgeous places every day, to feel at home. I hope that the feeling continues for as long as you wish it too. You're really considering not going back to college?! That's a bold decision, but it certainly sounds like you're happier in Austin, and shouldn't be all be seeking happiness above all else? I presume we should be.

I guess all those books are regarded as 'classics' and I haven't exactly recommended anything out of the ordinary, but the classics, I think, are always the best place to start, so you've got some kind of comparison for everything you read afterwards. It seems all I've been reading lately are 19th Century Russian novels anyway, so I'm kind of out of touch with anything remotely modern.

If neither of those take your fancy, try 'The Bell Jar' by Sylvia Plath - a really saddening autobiographical story of Sylvia's struggles with mental illness, or perhaps 'On The Road' by Kerouac, since it seems kind of appropriate at this stage in your life. To me, that book represents a desire to live life to the fullest, it's a quest to live, not to merely exist and I certainly feel as though it's led me in the right direction. "They danced down the streets like dingledodies, and I shambled after as I've been doing all my life after people who interest me, because the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones that never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn..."

Books! Of course. I guess I'll name a few, since I don't know exactly what you might be looking for, nor what you've already read. Firstly, an obvious choice which Stuart would no doubt agree with - Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck. It seems to be a favourite among our group.. it's a tale of a family travelling across America in the midst of the 1930s depression, desperately seeking work and food. It's an incredibly moving story, made even more so by the fact that in the back of your mind, you're well aware that thousands of people went through exactly the same circumstances as these people in the real world. Next I'd recommend 'Crime and Punishment' by Dostoevsky. Now, a lot of people say it's a really heavy book, but I've never seen it that way at all... to me it was really gripping and tense. Dostoevsky manages to portray his characters so well that you really feel you know them by the end of the story, and that's part of what I love about him, his ability to bring any story to life.

I wish we were neighbours, that would be the best. We'd go cycling every day without fail through the English countryside, hold frequent tea parties for one another in our respective houses, and naturally, share the produce of our gardens, be it potatoes, carrots or whatever else we choose to grow. (I'm growing some Strawberries in my garden at the minute).

Some of the most annoying, self obsessed people I have ever met have "good" music taste.[2] Exactly right, Sarah. I seem to be in desperate search of people who share a music taste with me, but in reality, some of the kindest, humblest people I have ever met have either had no interest in music whatsoever, or choose to listen to something entirely different to me. I really need to prevent myself from continuing along such a path and just judge people upon their characters and absolutely no more.

Hahah, I wasn't ever under the impression that you could pull off shouting 'YO BITCH', and believe me, that's a compliment. At least it can be seen as practice. You must get into the habit of referring to any girl, regardless of character, 'bitch', if you wish to be a part of mine and Stuart's crew. I used to be a menace to society, or perhaps just liked to think I was; who knows. I think it was mostly at secondary school, I used to do stupid things, like stealing a door handle with my friend or sticking stickers all over the school. I blame it all on my naivety, naturally.

I didn't, no. If I was going to go, I was going to go with a couple of my friends, one of which is actually a pretty big fan of theirs. When I told him about the show a few months ago he was psyched, but I never really contacted him in time and I don't think he ended up going either. That's okay though, I really didn't HAVE to see them or anything.

The other day I was at a record store in Lewiston where I ended up actually buying a second copy of F#A# just to have as a spare because it was ridiculously cheap and my other copy is at home in Wisconsin and I miss looking through the artwork.
