    Sat 15 May – State of The Union

    So on Saturday (may 15th) was Teacher's day.... And as Teacher as I am; I never thought I could have a better celebration than going to a concert... But What a concert!!!....

    I found out State Of The Union was coming just a week before the gig... So... I may have repeated this in several other reviews, but I only go to concerts of bands I really like, such this one... That day I seriously thought it was destiny calling me.... And It was!!


    So I was desperate to get tickets.... and I was preparing myself for a long trip to get one (almost an hour and a half journey, yes Mexico City is that big), when I thought I could talk there to check the opening-close schedules... And then: OMG!!! what a surprise was for me that I could BOOK my entrance!!!! Probably you're thinking: WTH?? Is this girl's country THAT in the Middle Age!?! Not so much (lol) let me explain: In Mexico, this kind of music is so underground that we are happy only by having concerts, no matter in what shit holes are... So I thought: Is this the new beginning concert organizers in Mexico City needed?? Anyway, my thoughts about that may come in a next episode!!! lol

    So there I was happy, very happy for my booking... Saturday appeared and with it myself dressed in red shirt and Doc Martens.... And arriving to practically Another World.... This concert wasn't very advertised here in Mexico... The main Radio Programme we have here in charge of this music didn't even know (or didn't want to) State.... was coming. Many of us thought it was an hoax organizers tend to do... In fact the place was faaaaar beyond any others organizers use to hire for this kind of concerts... (let's remember that horrible night at Nitzer Ebb's concert..... Hi Toño!!!!..... lol)

    So the place was ...gorgeous!!! it was A Concert Facility!! Proper sound, proper stage, proper.... everything!!! So that's why I was so surprised about the booking stuff!! And the place...! For a person like me used to concerts with wonderful columns in the middle just crushing sound waves and turning them into senseless noise (so you can figure out what happens when the genre is NOISE!!) this place was Paradise!!! Little, comfortable, certainly cheap alcohol, and a few people!!! And I was there!!

    So as usual the concert started at 12.00 in the morning... State Of The Union started with Evol Love .... One of their hits... and so on and on, they played only hits!!! Dead Serious , Radioman , Love is Complicated , Black City Lights , Enemy of the State ; Makina Mata , and songs from their new record (Dancing in the Dark , which I'm soo buying it!!) by the end they played two covers: A version in Spanish (because I'd never have guessed the beautiful singer Johann Sebastian comes from Colombia!! and the drummer is from Guadalajara, Mexico!!) from a VNV Nation song: 'Honor' and a cover of a wonderful Spanish song from a group called Los Prisioneros: Tren Al Sur. They ended with VNV Nation's cover....

    What was a surprise for all of us was this easy going attitude from the band... Johann Sebastian (such hunk!! I fell in love!! lol) elicited songs form the crowd... He shared the microphone to some people (me included!!! Twice!!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!!) to sing their songs, he laughed when he didn't remember Tren Al Sur lyrics and asked people to help him... He spoke in perfect Spanish with the crowd and had photographs and gave autographs to anyone who wanted to.... The drummer even asked for the results of a football match and gave his drumsticks...

    The concert was a hit!! One of those legendary stuff you can't have missed out... they said they'll return by October... I'm so hoping it!!!

    So pros: Band's attitude, the place!! (What a wonderful place!!) and the music which we could finally (at last!!!) listened to it!!!
    And Cons :-( : They played only for an hour... yep they did.... But well, what can you expect from an almost express concert with a 250 pesos price? And they forgot to play Romancing The Stone, a very demanded song.... I told Johann he missed that one and he replied: blame the drummer he's the sequence guy!! He said he was already nagged for that, but that next concert here they'll play it, but could I even say no to that cute face and body?? But of course not!!!

    See you next concert!! I'm giving you a little taste of what I heard, and in this video girls can take a better look to that gorgeous man:

  • Who cares? It's only Nitzer Ebb!!!

    You know... I've got to be honest... I'm a music addict... Furthermore; I am a gig's addict.... I like going to concerts, scream with all the power my voice has, dance till my body hurts and tell the group I went to see that I am there to support and show my fanaticism for them... So that was my main objective the day I went to see Nitzer Ebb for the first time ever , and as I am a fan of them, it didn't matter I had no-one to go with..... Only to find public is not what I expected it would be.... I mean, is Only Nitzer Ebb, one of the greatest Icons of Industrial, EBM and other genres, the ones who made a new road in music on the 80's , with Power, who cares?

    So with this..... outrageous and disrespectful statement I start my chronicle...

    The first point that turned the night into a mess was the organization.... Despite the fact that in the propaganda it was said the entrance was at nine.... Nothing happen till ten!! And believe me, nights in Mexico City these days are windy and cold.... everybody in the line were desperate to get inside.... some because of the coldness... some because of the beer!! Anyway we got inside (as Nitzer Ebb was having the sound check!!! while we were waiting outside... not good at all) The almost medical revision we had (I was forced to throw away my cigarettes!! I respect people, I smoke outside) and only ONE person checking the tickets made us enter in groups of five.... each ten minutes... But everything can be stand because we went to see them right?

    So we got inside.... and the place was empty... only by the time NE played it 'looked' a little crowded... Not enough for the kind of Band we were about to see... Second point in the mistakes' list: The DJ's... I don't know them, I don't know if they have played somewhere else... but if they play like that wherever they go.... There were Failures in the sound, the music couldn't be heard (first cause the place is not good enough for this kind of concerts, second cause sound engineering is a mess in electro gigs), but most of all: People in Mexico who listen to this kind of music are.... snobbish... they like to show off they know too much about electro music and, how come are they going to dance with some stupid dj playing? And last: They were only playing EBM and some kind of Industrial (maybe dark electro, I don't know cause I couldn't hear a s***t) the `popular' genres in Mexico nowadays, and despite these people ask for this genres in events, the DON'T dance!!!!! Contradictions, contradictions......

    The band that open the concert, despite having a 'fresh' concept, they were kicked out of the stage by the people, with wonderful comments as: 'get the fuck out of the stage, loser,' 'garbage,' fuck off' and other kindly comments ... At fist I thought: That's mean ... but I spoke with a friend of mine who said this band feels they are the band God was waiting to listen, and that actually they were saying they were about to play to some stupid people who know nothing about music... The band is Guinea.... Just in case you want to tell them to fuck off....

    Then Nitzer Ebb arrived... I was on ecstasy.... But people around me seemed to be in a different concert cause, nobody was dancing... They played for almost 2 hours and 15 minutes!!! Quite longer from other bands I've seen... Yet, people where making whistle sounds each time they stop (for the stupid quantity of 15! seconds) and someone even dared to do something only in Mexico is done: Mentar madre.... Meaning: Tell them to fuck off.... their mothers....!!! How come? Weren't ALL there to see Nitzer Ebb? Weren't all there enjoying one of the most wonderful bands in the genre? And they dared to do it!!!! I can't believe it....

    They played jewels from their songs: 'I Give To You,' 'Shame,' 'Let Your Body Learn,' 'Godhead,' the marvelous 'Control, I'm here' and of course the best one: 'Join in the Chant' .... yet it wasn't enough for these... 'people.' The only encore they made was with one of their best songs: 'Getting Closer' and then... they finished their presentation, maybe tired.... maybe fed up....

    So once again... the Mexican crowd (and the disastrous organization, as always) probably would have sent away one of the best bands ever... You must be proud people!!! But me: I enjoy it as hell, and I hope NE understand that some people is different....

    See ya some other time!!! (No De/vision next moth!! Mexican organizers need a lot to be called that way)

    Sab 7 Nov – nitzer ebb en mexico df

    Sabado 7 de Noviembre de 2009....Fue la cita en aquel lugar más o menos famoso de la Ciudad de México que se ha engalado de tener a algunos de los maximos exponentes de la escena 'oscura' en México (a pesar de sus claras fallas de acúsitca, que yo considero pertenecen más a la ingenieria de sonido.... ) en esta ocasión, le tocó a una de las bandas representativas de la escena....

    Pues así fue que en un muy desangelado Centro de Convenciones De Tlatelolco (y con un asqueroso concierto de reaggeton al lado, ugh) estuvo Nitzer Ebb, una banda ícono de su tiempo (y de este) que por circunstancias de la vida -recordemos que tuvimos 'seguidos' los conciertos de Depeche Mode, el festival donde estuvo Covenant, y el concierto de Hocico, sin contar que habia otro evento rimbombante en un lugar con la letra X- no tuvo la asistencia esperada. Sin embargo según yo, estuvimos los que teníamos que estar...

    Despues de una tediosa (y muy friolenta) espera de una hora para entrar (¡Tache por eso! Si dicen que van abrir a una hora, a esa hora DEBEN hacerlo) que se sucedió finalmente a las Diez de la noche, una revisión con escutinio casi médico y con un forzado y doloroso desprendimiento de mis cigarros (¡Desgraciados!! Si yo sí respeto y fumo afuera), entramos. Francamente algo vacío para ser Señores NItzer Ebb quienes iban a tocar.

    Las música empezó de la mano de unos Dj's mexicanos, de los cuáles no pondré nombres, porque no es lo mismo lo que te dicen en la propaganda a quienes están a la hora del concierto. Con fallas en el sonido (que yo quiero pensar que eran del sonido y no de los dj's porque esos cortes en la música son muy feos que por FORTUNA no pasó al momento que las bandas tocaron) tocaron sin prender mucho al público, aunque comienzo a pensar que no era su culpa.

    Después les siguieron unos muchachos que para ser sincera no los había escuchado llamados Guinea, con un concepto que si bien es 'fresco' (la inclusión de instrumentos en una banda de un estilo harsh EBM, o al menos eso me parecio oir) no llamó tanto la atención del público que esperaba los mecánicos sonidos EBM e Industrial, los géneros 'de moda' en nuestras tierras. Con improperios, groserías y gritos los chicos se bajaron del escenario con la cola entre las patas (Si de verdad quieren que se bajen, suban ustedes, a ver si es tan fácil ya de perdida tocar un acorde, ¿no?)

    Y entonces otra espera con DJ's empezó y media hora despues; comenzaría a tocar la banda que presumiblemente TODOS los ahi presentes querían ver: Nitzer Ebb.

    Los clásicos no se hicieron esperar, que si tu 'I Give To You,' que 'Godhead' que la muy bonita 'Control, I'm Here,' que 'Shame' que si la mejor de todas 'Join in the chant' y otras tantas que tuvieron al público moviendo el esqueleto por la increíble cantidad de ¡DOS HORAS! (aprox.) Pero tambien hubo una que otra canción que hizo a los asistentes hacer la ESTUPIDEZ de chiflarles y hasta ¡MENTARLES! a su jefecita... Por eso me pregunto los que 'afrimé' hace algunos momentos, ¿qué no era a Nitzer Ebb a quien íbamos a ver? ¿Porqué esa tontería de chifarles a las bandas principales? Entiendo que se tardaban un poco (la tonta cantidad de ¡15 segundos! por canción) pero de ahí, ¿a hacer eso? el público está cada vez de mal en peor. Y ni siquiera esas personas se dieron cuenta de la cantidad de tiempo que tocaron.... Un único encore nos trajo la hermosisima y bailadora 'Getting Closer.' y terminaron... Quizás cansados, quizás hartos....

    Escuché por ahí a unas señoritas que comentaban que ellos dijeron que el concierto aquí en México iba a ser especial, que habían cambiado algo del repertorio y la forma de presentación, entre otras cosas. No se qué decir, yo no fui a Los Angeles o San diego a verlos jejejeje. A lo que voy es que aún poniendo especial cuidado en su presentación aquí ( y concordando con la opinión de estas mismas chicas), al final no creo que Nitzer Ebb se haya llevado una muy buena impresión tanto del público como de los organizadores mexicanos....

    Sean reunión de circunstancias, karma de los organizadores, o simple desempeño la noche no fue lo que ellos esperaban. Para mi sí lo fue, vi lo que quería ver, lástima que quizás Nitzer Ebb en México no se vuelva a repetir.

    ¡Felicidades! Presiento que acaban de ahuyentar a otra de las grandes bandas de la escena, deben estar orgullosos...

    Sab 14 Mar – Aniversario DADA X

    El lugar estaba medio lleno cuando ya se empezaba a esuchar las notas de Psyche en el lugar..... Cuando llegué estaban sacando a un sujeto que ya estaba ebrio y eso que la tocada no tenia ni dos horas de empezada....

    A mi punto de vista... (y me echaré a algunas personas por esto) Hocico no debió haber cerrado el concierto... con esto claro no estoy diciendo que Hocico no sea bueno.... Sin embargo es algo que ya está mas visto que la novela de las ocho... Y hubiera estado mucho mejor que la banda que se robó todo el concierto hubiera cerrado... Me refiero por supuesto a Syrian.... Que es TECHNO POP, como ellos mismos se dicen en Musika Atomika....

    Al mismo momento en que comenzaron a tocar con Musika Atomika la gente se volvió loca, a otros más les llamó la atención... y la verdad me sorprende que hayan habido tantas personas que tambien iban a verlos y a corear sus canciones... Pense que Syrian era menos conocido aquí... Yo como soy fan de corazón me metí en el viaje y no me fijé muy bien.... Pero si vi bastante gente que aunque no los conocía los atrapó y les gustó la musica... Espero que esto sea un aliciente para que por fin vengan con un concierto para ellos solos.... Porque como fue evidente ayer Syrian ya no es ningún telonero....

    Decoded Feedback también estuvo muy bien, se nota cuando las bandas tienen experiencia, todo es sistemático y saben el negocio... y con un toque especial en cada concierto. Por supuesto que Psyche estuvo bien tambien., sin embargo la gente no reacciona tanto con el porque es poco conocido, yo sólo vi que la gente se alborotó mucho cuando se aventó el cover de Goodbye Horses siendo que Unveiling the Secret es de las mejores rolas que tiene. y no tuvo el mismo griterío.

    Algunos dicen que el sonido fue muy malo durante todo el concierto.... Yo no vi diferencia alguna, de entrada sabemos que El Centro de Convenciones pues no es un lugar muy apto que digamos para hacer conciertos... Ahí tienen a Melotron en su penúltima vez en México, ellos tambien tuvieron muchos problemas...

    Y al final Hocico... que se le quiere por ser banda nacional y eso... Pero para ser sinceros... Yo escuché mucha gente que se quejó de que sus últimos discos suenan igual.... y muchos que de plano se salieron 'porque ya los habian visto' o ' porque no les gustaba'... Yo estoy incluida ahí... Sólo estuve a la mitad de su presentación y me salí... Y no digo que hayan tocado mal, ¿ehh? También se les nota la experiencia que tienen. Conozco a Hocico y a su música pero no me llama la atención. Yo sólo fui a ver a las otras tres bandas, y especialmente a Syrian... ¡Y no me decepcionaron!!!! Fueron lo mejor de la noche, y no es porque yo sea fan...

    Ojalá y vuelvan y sean la banda principal.... Les faltaron muuuchas canciones que hubiera adorado oir (y creo que no soy la única, ya me di cuenta jejeje)... Pero espero que con esta visita sepan que sí hay público (y muy bueno), en México....

    Nos vemos en la que sigue!!!!

    P.D.: ¿Ya ven por qué las bandas adoran al público mexicano? ¡Somos bien querendones!!!!! Sigamos así.....
