The Walkmen @ Granada 5/5

Sat 5 Mar – The Walkmen, The Head And The Heart, Seryn

alksdjfalkdjf This was so much fun! I love the Granada, being a short person there are many places to stand and still be able to see just fine. The place really wasn't as crowded as I've seen the Granada in times past and the crowd was a pretty mellow one. Here for the music not so much the scene. Not to mention we got some awesome eats before the show next door at Snuffers (I had never sat in the "original room" before and it was wayyy cool). Although next time I definitely want to try that oyster bar accross the street especially afer a shout out from the singer of Head and the Heart on stage, haha.

I didn't expcet much from Seryn after listening to some songs on the internet beforehand, and they delivered on that expectation. Their performace was riddled with technical issues and it was hard to say whether they just didn't have a stage hand to set that shit up, or they had a really crappy one. I think they were even tuning their instruments after the first or second song by trying to fake a long drawn out note. Also, TOO MUCH BOW! Jesus, seriously? Just don't try to bow a xylophone… really. just don't do it. Seryn seemed to me like a bunch of english majors who wanted to bust out their high school band instruments (typical of denton) and take themselves seriously doing so. However, they weren't BAD, there were a few songs that were awesome, and although there were in my opinion too many instruments on stage, I loved the girl in dreads playing tympani. HOT.

As the projector screens obnoxiously played through the same 5 songs we had already heard earlier, and the twitter feed started getting out of hand, Doug went to grab us a couple of beers. It was nice to not be worried about losing your spot if you wanted to make a trip to the bar.

Then The Head and the Heart took the stage. I'd never listened to these guys before but WOOOO they were awesome! If there's one place for indie musicians it is folk-rock, for sure.

Finally The Walkmen played, and rocked. Hard. The lead singer's voice really holds up on stange, I imagine hard to do with such shouty vocal parts.
