Songs of 2007

So I've decided this year to compile a list of songs that I might obssess over this year. They won't necessarily be songs released in 2007. Keep that in mind.

1. Tokyo Tokyo
by Arrah and the Ferns
This song is my definition of 'beauty'. The airy soft vocals in contrast to the jangly banjolin is just delicious! Makes me want to go somewhere.

2. Apple For Evan
by Arrah and the Ferns
Also by A&tF, this song is more cutesy compared to Tokyo, Tokyo. Just made me bob my head and give me fuzzy feelings.

3. As Winter Gives Way to Spring
by Springfactory
The "older" feeling this song has is catchy and whistle worthy. I listened to it all winter long and made me crave for spring like you cannot believe.

4. Did I Step on Your Trumpet
by Danielson
Head bob inducing. I love the female back up vocalists.

5. We Expected
by The Hussys
Pop goodness with a little edge to it. It's a bitter song about meeting and failing expectations.

6. Death to Los Campesinos!
by Los Campesinos
These guys must love what they do. You can just tell when you listen to them. I can only imagine what a live performance must be like! The song's lyrics make absolutely not sense to me, but either way, I just want to get up and dance.

7. Lovesong No. 1
by Lost Summer Kitten
Sad. It's the only way to describe this song. It sounds so vulnerable and fragile, you can't help but feel a little insecure yourself. This song explores the feelings that accompagny abandonement.

8. Yea Yeah
by Matt & Kim
Doesn't this just make you want to dance!?! This song was a huge hit with me for weeks, though you wouldn't know it looking at my top tracks, because my scrobbler wouldn't work for some reason.

9. Snow Brigade
by Mew
These danish performers composed a pretty nifty rift for this song. The beginning just got me going and the lyrics "I'll find you somewhere/ and show you how much I care/ Know that there is no/ escape from my snow brigade"

10. Bring the Pain
by Mindless Self Indulgence
I don't know even know why I got hooked on this one. It's not my kind of music AT ALL. But the beats and the mellows had me head banging one moment, crooning the next.

11. Speakers Push the Air
by Pretty Girls Make Graves
This song has some of the most simple, yet right to the point lyrics. Talks about how music just makes life so much better and I couldn't agree more. A song anyone can relate to. That and the beat is fantastic.

12. Chicago
by Sufjan Stevens
I heard this song after purchasing and viewing "Little Miss Sunshine" and it just filled me up with emotion. It really fit with the movie. Anywho, this track just makes me feel moved for some reason. I don't know why. Maybe it's the violin, Sufjan's voice. I can't pinpoint it, but I really like it.

13. Bad Education
by Tilly & the Wall
The tap dancing at the beginning of the song just gets me riled up! The fast rhymes and lyrics got me hooked and I couldn't get enough of this one for awhile either.

14. There's Only One Thing Left to Say
by Velocity Girl
This one sounds kind of "old school" too, which I just love lately. Soft female vocals never hurt either.

15. Trouble
by Voxtrot
I've been in love with Voxtrot lately. This song was from their EP "Your Biggest Fan" and the soft vocals and piano mixed with the usual drums and guitar are just too much. I also love the line "Suddenly out of reach / techno on the beach"

16. Daia no Hana
by Yoriko
I love my japanese music, though I haven't to as much as I used to. But this pop/rock song is just so catchy and again, the vocalist just does such a good job.

17. Unsleeping
by Ms. John Soda
Indietronica is an interesting hybrid and Ms.JS pulls it off marvellously. The sound is almost haunting, but in the catchiest way possible.

18. Nothing
by A Cat Called Cricket
Country isn't one of my first picks either, but this song adds an element of folk and pop that is just irresistible. The lyrics had me entranced as well. Also love my cello.

19. No Cars Go
by The Arcade Fire
From Arcade Fire's new Neon Album, this song hooks you from the get-go and takes you along a ride that you won't soon forget. Easily my favorite track from the album.

20. Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out)
by The Arcade Fire
From Arcade Fire's first hit release album "Funeral" this song I find ressembles most "No Cars Go". It's got a dark melody that's still enticing and easy-listening.

21. Hear Me Out
by Winterkids
These guys sound like Blink 1-82 when they were good and if Tom Delonge was born british. It's so incredibly catching and repeat worthy! They're going to top my charts for sure.

22. Our Haunt
by Palomar
Also somewhat of a darker sound, this is still pop, but in the deepest way possible.

23. Kid Gloves
by Voxtrot
Voxtrot's most recent mp3 is the second track to their anticipated first full album release, this song gives me a lot of high hopes for the soontobereleased album.

24. If They Find Me
by Via Audio
I first fell in love with Via Audio when I heard their song "Developping Active People" and I was lucky that they have a good portion of their songs as gold tracks on Last FM! It's how I discovered this gem of a song that isn't a indie-poppish as DAP. Very good listen.

Dear Confessor
by Immaculate Machine
I was lucky to come by this song on a music blog called Skatterbrain. Always good picks there. :] This song is fun and upbeat and I instantly fell in love. It's too bad I'm having a hard time finding more by these artists.

Sherry & Her Butterfly Net
by The Most Serene Republic
This song is to be on TMSR upcoming album. It's gorgeous! The beginning of the song just lures you right in. It's beautifully haunting.
