(whispers) also jerry garcia played banjo in a bluegrass supergroup and acoustic guitar doing folk collabs with some great musicians doing his own / their own things or covering traditional folk tunes which i think you'd also be interested in so hollabout it some time if you want / like idk if you know david grisman (mandolin) but he's gr8 they did a bunch together ok ok that's it

YE S SARAH THAT IS THE MAGIC. that is some classic grateful dead synchronicity right there. right cool. i am glad that happened. and i know it takes time duh have u even met me no but rly i probably had skeletons in the closet for a year or two or maybe even three before one night i put on the live/dead dark star on the way home and i was like "hey now" AND THEN even it still wasn't another almost five months until i started getting rly into them. all good things in all good time and such

sarah. sarah. ok i got this so much better. i think i just got a lil excited before cause this makes way more sense. obbvis your next step would be workingman's dead. it came out earlier in 1970 and is american beauty's brother. you gotta have both. trust / then dick's picks 4 from feb '70 so you can see what their live stuff was like at that time (and maybe dp8 too bc first disc acoustic stuff). THEN you go forward/back just a bit to live/dead sklfck and e72. and then phil zone to check out other eras. it shouldn't be 2 hard to go on your own from there but you can hollat me any time. sarah are u gonna listen 2 the dead now. just think of the cute deadheads from freaks and geeks. listen. do it 4 them

fallout from phil zone is anotehr gr8 sampler 2 cds put together by bassist phil lesh you can google what "phil zone" is / mostly it's rly important for a pretty good dancin in the streets and a raw viola lee blues and FknN unbelievable hard to handle and the In the Midnight Hour is one of my favorite things ever it's 30 minutes of pure bliss (66/67 dead is so underappreciated) / deadlistening dot com is a good resource too with uncommon shows/sources/eras and cool writeups

their sound changed a lot over the years and especially in the 60s and 70s it was changing every year / stay away from 80s generally in the beginning unless yr going into like 89 / 90 because that was their last Really Great Time and i do have a few favs from then i actuzally have a grateful dead page now that lists things so you can refer to that / anyway So Many Roads 1965 - 1995 is a pretty comprehensive sampler of most of their career and v good too so you should def get that also

ok so well you cant really go wrong with the basics that's what i did /// their first few studio albums are all p good (s/t '67 - american beauty) /// but mainly imo you wanna get yr hands on live/dead, s/t '71 (aka skull & roses aka skullfuck) and europe '72 // the live/dead dark star is part of what did it for me, also the cow palace nye 76 eyes of the world (absolutely look it up) // there are some other Essential Noob Shows (not that they are lesser they are p much GOAT shows just they just had very high quality sources in v. high circulation back in the day) like May 8 1977 @ barton hall ithaca ny / August 27 1972 (officially released as Sunshine Daydream now) and some of the dick's picks (4/8 are good from '70) i'll try to remember more later

Hey, saw you post on Foals page. I'd recommend you The Cast Of Cheers, some of their songs really remind old Foals.

We are three girls from the forests of Sweden and we are going to record our very first album in Woodstock this summer! We would love if you checked out this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc_SKuEZm0o ! Let us know what you think (it's much appreciated) by commenting the video, and also check out our cover of 'Kathy's Song' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44kjqZUC5PU that we got the chance to play live for Paul Simon! Love, VIDAR
