Well of course I wouldn't expect the experimental songs to translate well live because they are enhanced and decorated around studio technology. It would be deflating to hear some of those songs live. But on record, they are preferred because Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is their breakthrough album. Mainly due to the much-publicized record label troubles and the fact people usually root for albums record companies are hell-bent on shelving. And A Ghost Is Born was an ambitious follow-up that many considered respectable, if not surpassing the level of its predecessor. I prefer both sides of Wilco, actually, but I enjoy Sky Blue Sky because its marriage of those two sides, but more insular and neutralized. It's also one of hell of a grower. It might not set ablaze on the first few listens, but its charms sink in slowly but surely. The lyrical themes are more relatable and universal. Maybe because I'm more sensitive than most, but I just find the album so emotionally moving.
