The background to this set of gigs was to promote Bose new speaker system and over the course for the motor show there would be a different artist each day. On the second day of the show (this being the preview day the public were allowed in but had to pay extra) Marillion would be playing 2 sets. Due to the size of the stage and where they would be performing there would only be H, Steve and Pete. Also known as Los Trios Marillos.
After having a quick walk about the motor show I got to the Bose stand with Mrs west72 about 12:10 and saw that things were being set up in a closed off area. Oh well i thought, that must be for the Bose people and their guests and reps, as there were quite a few people in suits chatting away. During this time my wife had started chatting to one of the Bose people and he happened to be the person who had organised the day and had been up to the Racket Club (Marillion’s studio) with the speaker setup the guys would be using. He said we could walk round the stand and could sit in the seated area in front of where the band were going to be!!!!!!. I couldn’t believe I was going to be so close and have a great view. Soon Pete turned up and Steve, again before I could say anything my wife was up and asking the guys if she could have their autographs. H appeared and the guys did a quick sound check of This is the 21st century. Some of the songs that were played and this is not complete and in the right order.
Cover My Eyes,
80 Days, Your Gone,
See It Like A Baby, The Bell in the Sea,
Easter and
This Is The 21st Century. There were others and they played for 30 minutes.
After the show I managed to have a chat and get my photo taken with the guys. What great friendly and genuine people they are. Asked H about the H natural DVD from the Union Chapel show, he said that it has been mixed and is ready to go, sounds and looks great and H feels that the DVD really captures the vibe of the show (I can’t wait). It has been passed over to Erik and it’s in his hands now and he is hoping for a release soon.
Went back to the Bose stand about 3:15 as the guys were playing again at 4 and I was told by another Bose guy that it would be a different set than before. Managed to get the same seats at the front again. Ian turned up to watch. At 4 H came on and started with Hollow Man and then Pete and Steve joined him.
Faith,
Go, Don’t hurt yourself,
The Answering Machine were some of the songs again their were others. Again they played for 30 minutes and were fantastic.
Considering the amount of general noise and stuff that was going on around, the sound was really good and the guys were brilliant. My wife who is not a fan, said that they were amazing, played really well and were also really nice people.
The set list is nowhere near complete and in order, I have a bad memory and was to busy taking in a great set.
