Went for the cheapo pop CDs first:
Drive
Beautiful Collision
Out of the Moon
Overnight Success
Shihad
Inside The Dub Plates
Aural Trash
The Crusader
Pegasus
"Beautiful Collision" and "Inside The Dub Plates" had the strongest effect on me. BC was so cheesy it's catchy. I hated Sihad - more SoCal clone rock. Barf.
Scribe was a decent surprised. While not original, I thought it was listenable (for a non-rap lover). This album would have rocketed up the US urban charts. Maybe Scribe needs to shoot somebody or get into a gang fight.
Next week I plan to pick up:
The Black Seeds
Shapeshifter
SJD
Dimmer
Another The Phoenix Foundation album (still not sure why Wellington-ites love them so much).
Fat Freddy's Drop (seems to make everybody's list)
Che Fu (cool name)
I swear I'll ask the sales clerk if an album has ANY bad SoCal emo tunes on it. I thought I could escape it by leaving Canada, but I guess I was wrong.
