Greetings!! XD

It's that time of year again, I have spent many hours of the last couple of weeks repeatedly listening to the new releases of the year in order to compile my finalized top 10 albums list..

This years list has been even harder to finish than last years, there have been two albums in 2010 in particular which have become amongst my favourite albums of all time.. I had a pretty hard time choosing just ten albums as there has been a lot of decent new releases this year and I have lots of new favourites but I have finally settled on these CD's... So here goes, these are my ten most loved albums of this year:

10. Angra - Aqua

9. Avalanch - El ladrón de sueños

8. Freedom Call - Legend of the Shadowking

7. Avantasia - Angel Of Babylon

6. Avantasia - The Wicked Symphony

5. Allen-Lande - The Showdown

4. Mägo de Oz - Gaia: Epílogo

3. Dark Moor - Ancestral Romance

2. Stravaganzza - Raices

...and here's my top album of the year. This year's number one album is easily one of my favourite CD's of all time. It has everything I like in an album - a good balance of fast and slow songs, a mixture of serious and fun songs, male and female vocals and a ton of guest musicians from members of some of my other favourite bands such as Saratoga, Stravaganzza, Savia and more.. Pretty much anyone who knows me will already know what my number 1 album of the year is anyway!! :D

......................................................................................................................................................

Other honourable mentions go to these albums which just missed out on my top 10 list:

Darksun - Tocar El Sol
Saurom - Maryam
Tierra Santa - Caminos De Fuego
Labyrinth - Return To Heaven Denied Pt. II - A Midnight Autumn's Dream
Geysser - El Hombre Sin Talento
Kamelot - Poetry for the Poisoned
Galneryus - Resurrection

So thats it for another year.. All that's left for me to say now is that If 2011 has half the amount of good new releases as 2010 then I will be more than happy.. Hopefully we shall be treated to new albums from Symphony X, Pain of Salvation, Edguy and Warcry within the next 12 months (I'm predicing now that Symphony X will release the best album of 2011, lets hope I'm right!)..

Until the same time next year...

Thanks for checking my journal out dude, I agree about Aqua taking a few listens to fully appreciate but it's still a fantastic album. I could have easily done a top 20 this year and they would have all been albums that I really like the standards were just that high this year.. The Galneryus one would have made an appearance as well as the latest Ars Amandi album - that one has had a few spins here recently.. You should write yours up and send it my way - should be an interesting read.. :D

--- I forgot to add that I thought you'd appreciate the amount of Spanish speaking bands in my top 10 list!! Spain has been the best country for metal this year without doubt.. Heh, I only featured one Spanish band in my top 10 of 2009 journal!! XD

To be honest, I haven't really listened to much Helloween in the last 7-8 years or so - I used to be a big fan of theirs when I was younger and I played their Master of the Rings and Keeper of the Seven Keys albums over and over.. I'll check out the 7 Sinners album soon, it'll be nostalgic to hear Helloween again and hopefully I'll learn to love them again.. :)

7 sinners is by far their best album since the better than raw/dark ride era. Gambling with the devil is very good too. I'll check some of your picks, specially the spanish ones. It curious that despite being a native spanish-speaker, i've always overlooked the power metal scene of that country.

I wish I'd listened to Darksun's Tocar el Sol album a little more in 2010 because i'm really into it at the moment.. If I'd have given it a little bit more of a chance It would have been in my top 5 for certain.. Oh well, I could edit it but I think i'd prefer to keep it as original.. :D
