Mind you though, I only played them at 25% of their true potential, so they can get much louder and I wouldn't go with any other speakers than MACKIE. They make some of the best speakers out there and just brought out a new range so the older range got much cheaper now. You'll find MACKIE (if not at house parties or in small venues) at most clubs or concerts as monitor speakers because of the clear and powerful sound. As for the MIDI controller, I decided to got with the Vestax VCI 100 bundled with a Native Instruments Kontrol 1 (the latter works as sound card but can be used as a MIDI controller too) both of which work with any laptop or mac that has 2GB RAM and a half decent processor. I don't need/use an amp because my MACKIE's are active PAs. So are you looking into digital DJing? ~:D
