Spot on old chap... During college, my roommate was a wonderful guitarist. When I tried to play guitar, with my short stubby fingers, I found I couldn't even reach for the bulk of the chords. Worse yet, my fat fingers would end up pressing 2 strings instead of 1 (or even worse, 3 if I was trying to stretch a finger and the mid part of the phlange would touch a 3 string, while the tips of a finger would press 1 string down while interrupting the 2nd... IOW, I was rather hopeless). What my roommate did notice was my unusual ability to pick out the exact proper notes and my ability to learn to play songs (melody) by ear. He recommended I try to play the bass... then he taught me to play a 12 bar blues riff, and from there I was sold. As I also knew how to sing in key, as I mention somewhere, I ended up as the lead vocalist and bassist in a Doors Cover Band. I was forever sold!! I also play the harmonica (again, the playing by ear thing).

Don't even bother unless you've been through what I have. My grip is rather strong... and belittling George Harrison's life is helpful just how?
