• 10th YEAR OF “WALTZING MATILDA” AT THE BLEDISLOE CUP

    Ago 4 2008, 2h14

This will be the tenth year of “Waltzing Matilda” being sung at the Bledisloe Cup Rugby Test matches between Australia and New Zealand.

It all started in August, 1999 when John Williamson led the crowd of over 104,000 people at Stadium Australia singing our national song “Waltzing Matilda”.

The request had come to John from Rod McQueen (subsequent World Cup winning coach) who asked for an Australian song that could counter the All Blacks Haka. John had no hesitation in suggesting “Waltzing Matilda”.

John has been asked to sing and lead the almost capacity crowd this Saturday night back at Stadium Australia (ANZ Stadium) and he is asking people to join in with him with pride and gusto to really support the Wallabies.

John Williamson’s 1999 recording of “Waltzing Matilda” – Rugby Version is available on the following CD’s – “Anthems”, “True Blue 2”

  • UNDEROATH TO RELEASE ‘LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION’ AUGUST 30

    Ago 4 2008, 2h09

As the final notes ring out on Lost In The Sound Of Separation, it’s clear that Underoath - who’ve built their career on being both heavy and experimental- have delivered their most accomplished album to date. Succinct and resolute, there’s no denying the power of LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION, due out August 30 on Tooth & Nail/Solid State/Virgin as the follow-up to 2006’s rapturously received and US gold-certified Define The Great Line.

Now headlining the Hot Topic stage of the Mayhem Tour, UNDEROATH join hard music heavyweights Slipknot, Disturbed, Mastodon and Dragonforce, among others. During days off from the Mayhem tour, UNDEROATH will play a series of headlining dates with The Red Chord supporting.

Next, in early September, UNDEROATH will headline an eight-city U.K. trek, to be followed by dates in Germany, Italy, South Africa and Australia. In October and November, look for UNDEROATH to return to the U.S. for a major headlining run- kicking off at Honolulu’s Pipeline Café on October 4-before touring Central and South America.

UNDEROATH - whose last three albums count combined sales in excess of one million copies - have worked diligently to reach this creative apex while building what may be the biggest metalcore following in the world. “Breathing In A New Mentality” launches the new record with an ingenious false start that gives way to innovative ferocity. “We wanted people to hear it and have a first impression like, ‘Man they must’ve cut a lot of corners,’“ says guitarist MCTAGUE of the disc-opener. “And then it kicks in and your entire car, blows up. We wanted to come out, blow them away. Just shut people up. And in doing that, we’ve made the beginning of the record very memorable.”

Beyond exceptional, it’s a breathtaking brain-rattling affirmation that the six men of Tampa, FL-based UNDEROATH - lead vocalist SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN, guitarist TIM MCTAGUE, bassist GRANT BRANDELL, drummer AARON GILLESPIE, keyboardist CHRIS DUDLEY and guitarist JAMES SMITH - have taken a huge creative step forward. The group recently shot a video for the scathing “Desperate Times, Desperate Measures” with director Walter Robot (Milosh “The City,” Modest Mouse “Missed the Boat,” The Pinkertones “Sexy Robot”) in Los Angeles. Expect more news about the clip soon.

By trusting their instincts, pushing their songcraft to the limit and meticulously perfecting it with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) and Matt Goldman (Copeland, The Chariot), the band has soared to new artistic heights with LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION. “The Created Void” offers a melodic reprieve. “Naturally we are a heavy band and we want to put our best foot forward in that respect,” MCTAGUE says. “I love ‘The Created Void,’ one of the most melodic songs we’ve ever done, the bottom line is everything sounds the way it does on the record because we agreed that’s how it should sound, whether it’s heavy or melodic.” “We’ve had to work hard at being open-minded about our own art and let it flow naturally”, MCTAGUE continues. “We love melodies, but our instincts usually go in the other direction.”

Defying the band’s traditional approach, the uplifting “Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear” is a beautiful near ballad lighter destined to become a fan favourite. “I originally wrote the music without intending for it to be a quote-unquote accessible song,” MCTAGUE says of the memorable soundscape. “It was a slow-paced, slowed- down jam-out song.” With such a diverse musical display coupled with the input of six opinionated souls, the completion of LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION--thanks in part to the skilled mixing of veteran David Bendeth--is an epic achievement. “We laboriously toiled over this record,” GILLESPIE admits. “Even when we’re in the studio, I don’t think we are all ever totally happy. There is constant change and flux until we’re done. We always push ourselves to make the best music imaginable.”

To kick-start the new album the band have just posted their first single “Desperate Times, Desperate Measures” on MySpace for fans to stream (www.myspace.com/underoath) which has had over 100,000 plays in 24 hours. Tickets are still available to purchase for the following Australian shows.

  • MILEY CYRUS BREAKS OUT WITH NEW ALBUM ‘BREAKOUT’ RELEASED ON AUGUST 30 ON HOLLYWOOD…

    Ago 4 2008, 2h05

She may be young, but Miley Cyrus loves what she does, fearlessly embracing new creative directions every chance she gets. That’s the meta-message in ‘Breakout’, her brilliant new Hollywood Records album.

‘Breakout’ is nothing less than Miley’s declaration of artistic independence. Unlike her previous album, featuring the Australian gold selling single ‘See You Again’ and half of which featured her performing as Hannah Montana, the new one is 100 percent Miley. She co-wrote eight of the album’s 12 songs and put her stamp on every aspect of production.

Starting with the debut single ‘7 Things’, Miley establishes she is first and foremost a rocker. Co-written with Antonina Armato and Tim James, the song is a pounding rebuke of faithless love, seen through the eyes of an angst ridden teen. Yet the video, directed with restrained simplicity by Brett Ratner (“Rush Hour”), brings out the vulnerability below the surface.

Miley keeps the tempo fast and furious with ‘Breakout’ (co-written by the Go-Go’s Gina Schock), a cry for freedom from regimentation (read: school). Even a heartbreak ballad like ‘Driveway’, co-written by Miley with producers Scott Cutler and Anne Preven, pumps up the volume. Miley sings about global climate change on ‘Wake Up America’ but does so in an upbeat way young fans can take in. And dance to.

Don’t think you can catch a breath yet, because Miley’s take on ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ converts the Cyndi Lauper classic into an iPod-ready anthem. The same goes for ‘Full Circle’, a sparkling rocker with a Spector-esque wall of sound and sensational vocal from Miley, who co wrote the tune with Cutler and Preven. And then there’s ‘Fly in the Wall’, a fun and freaky rocker right down to the handclaps and bug-eyed tremolo refrain.

Miley throws a curveball with the gently pulsing Bottom of the Ocean’, a ballad that captures the pain of loss so precisely, it’s hard to know how a happy 15-year-old could have conceived it. She keeps that theme going with ‘Goodbye’, a beautiful ballad about a foundering relationship that still feels too alive to be over.

And then there’s ‘Four Walls’ and the (ironically) sonically complex ‘Simple Song’, two tracks that push Miley ever further into self-reflection. Normally, kids don’t indulge in this level of sophistication, but it became clear long ago that Miley Cyrus doesn’t do things the normal way.

  • END OF FASHION It’s no lie, they’re back for an album tour

    Ago 4 2008, 1h21

End of Fashion are pleased to announce they are doing what they love best and heading back out on the road with special guests The Seabellies and Harlequin League, on a national headline tour in September/October to support the release of their new album ‘Book Of Lies’ which is released on September 27.

‘Book Of Lies’ was recorded at home in Perth, with producer Magoo (Regurgitator, Midnight Oil, Powderfinger) and Andy Lawson (The Avenues), and finished off by Tim Palmer (U2, The Cure, Robert Plant) who mixed the album in Los Angeles. A new spirit and energy are reflected in the songs and while the pop nous and melodic attentiveness the band displayed on their debut LP makes a signature return, End Of Fashion have crafted an album that is more brutal and angular than the last.

‘Fussy’, the first single lifted from the album, hit the radio airwaves this week causing a rippling effect across the country with the track being added immediately across the board at radio. Be on the lookout for the very non-traditional music video clip to accompany the song, directed by Natasha Pincus (Inside Film Award winner, Best Music Video 2007 for Paul Kelly’s ‘God Told Me To’), as the first instalment of a two part video series which is bound to create a stir. Lead singer Justin Burford embodies a whole new persona. Think “Wolf Creek” meets “Dexter”.

  • WALT DISNEY PICTURES AND PIXAR ANIMATION STUDIOS PRESENT THE COSMIC COMEDY WALL•E

    Jul 22 2008, 3h11

FEATURING ORIGINAL SCORE BY ACADEMY AWARD® NOMINATED COMPOSER Thomas Newman WITH AN ORIGINAL SONG WRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY Peter Gabriel

**ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK TO BE RELEASED ON AUGUST 30TH ON WALT DISNEY RECORDS**

Walt Disney Records will release the original soundtrack for Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar Animation Studios WALL•E on August 30, 2008. The recording features score written by 8 time Academy Award®-nominated composer Thomas Newman (“Finding Nemo”, “American Beauty”) and the original song “Down to Earth” written and performed by Peter Gabriel (with music by Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman). The soundtrack also includes two songs from “Hello Dolly” performed by Michael Crawford (“It Only Takes A Moment” and “Put On Your Sunday Clothes”) and Louis Armstrong’s “La Vie En Rose”.

Academy Award®-winning writer-director Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo”, “A Bug’s Life”) didn’t wait long to ask “Finding Nemo” collaborator Thomas Newman to compose the music for WALL•E. Stanton described, “The night of the Oscars in 2004 for Nemo, we went out for a celebratory toast at the bar in the middle of the ceremony, and right there I remember saying, ‘Okay, I’ve got this idea, and it involves Hello Dolly and science fiction.’ Wondering if he would still talk to me after that…”

The Hello Dolly reference didn’t scare off Newman – his uncle Lionel was the conductor for the 1969 film. Thomas Newman is member of the film-scoring Newman dynasty (his father and uncle are the legendary composer and conductor Alfred and Lionel Newman respectively, his brother is composer David Newman and cousin is composer/singer/songwriter/recording artist Randy Newman).

After studying at Yale University, Thomas Newman joined the family business and began scoring for film in 1984. It was ten years later that he would became a double Academy Award®-nominee with “Little Women” and “The Shawshank Redemption”. He has since received 8 nominations for the films “American Beauty”, “Road To Perdition”, “Finding Nemo”, “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events”, and “The Good German”. He also composed the theme music for the television shows “Boston Public” and “Six Feet Under” and the miniseries “Angels in America”.

Though he has written music for a wide range of films Thomas Newman has never composed for a science fiction film. He brought his own unique style to WALL•E. Stanton describes, “He’s got a very unique style that often involves a lot of overdubs and mixing after he’s recorded the orchestra. And it just allows this fresh palette of sounds to come in.”

“He’s really nailed an identity for not only the movie but for the characters and for the moments,” Stanton continues, “and I can’t imagine it any other way.”

Legendary artist Peter Gabriel had first contacted Andrew Stanton through a mutual friend, Gabriel’s bass player Tony Levin. Gabriel emailed Stanton seeking advice on a different animated feature. The email exchanged ended with Gabriel adding a post script offering “If you ever need a song in one of your movies, just let me know.” Stanton called in the marker, and Gabriel to collaborate with Newman on the song “Down To You,” which Peter performs. In addition, Gabriel co-composed two additional score cues with Newman.

    ---

What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off?

Academy Award®-winning writer-director Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo”) and the inventive storytellers and technical geniuses at Pixar Animation Studios (“The Incredibles”, “Cars”, “Ratatouille”) transport moviegoers to a galaxy not so far away for a new computer-animated cosmic comedy about a determined and heroic robot named WALL•E.

After hundreds of years doing what he was built for, WALL•E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realise that WALL•E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet’s future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL•E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets into motion one of the most exciting and imaginative comedy adventures ever brought to the big screen.

  • GLEN CAMPBELL RETURNS FOR HIS DYNAMIC NEW STUDIO ALBUM, MEET GLEN CAMPBELL

    Jul 22 2008, 3h06

In a legendary music career that spans more than five decades, Glen Campbell has achieved chart-topping, platinum-selling pop and country success singing everyday tales of life, love, work and heartache. For Meet Glen Campbell, his inspired, dynamic new studio album, the music icon has returned to his longtime label home, Capitol Records. Meet Glen Campbell will be released in Australia on August 16.

The songs on the album all strike a personal and musical chord with Campbell. He has reinterpreted and re-imagined both older and contemporary songs with his own signature vocal and guitar arrangements. A true musician’s musician, Campbell’s distinct guitar playing, along with the clarity and emotion of his powerful vocal performance, come together to give new life to the songs he selected for Meet Glen Campbell.

The influential singer, guitarist and stylist, who has long made others’ songs his own, is doing it again, recording high-spirited, emotionally charged versions of tracks that have personally moved and inspired him. Campbell’s intimate performances convey an autobiographical and deeply personal connection to the album’s songs*, which include Travis’ “Sing”, Foo Fighters “Times Like These”, U2’s “All I Want Is You”, Green Days’ “Good Riddance” and John Lennon’s “Grow Old With Me” among others.

“I really like all of the songs and I had a great time recording them. While I didn’t write these songs, this sounds like a Glen Campbell album, which is important to me,” says Glen Campbell.

A musician at heart, Campbell has maintained a sense of truth, respect and authenticity throughout his career. The songs on his new album were written by others, but become undeniably Campbell’s own as he has personally styled them for the new album. Titled evocatively by design, the album is certain to surprise and delight longtime fans and turn many new ears to the music icon’s legendary career. Meet Glen Campbell welcomes discovery and re-discovery of the legend and his music.

Recorded in March and April at The Recording Studio and Jim Henson Studios in Los Angeles, Meet Glen Campbell is produced by Julian Raymond (Rosanne Cash, Fastball, Shawn Mullins, Wallflowers) with engineer/co-producer Howard Willing. The album features musical contributions by Campbell contemporaries as well as younger rock and alt-country artists who joined him in the studio, including Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander, Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. and Jason Faulkner from Jellyfish, and Chris Chaney from Jane’s Addiction. Campbell’s sons and daughters, who regularly perform with their father, recorded backing vocals for the tracks, providing the album’s warm family tone.

Conceived by Julian Raymond to honour Campbell’s musical legacy while showcasing his creative versatility and vitality, Meet Glen Campbell has been long in the making since its creative inception to the recent studio sessions. Says Raymond of the new album, “I’ve been listening to Glen since I was nine years old, so making this record is an honour and a dream come true. I am incredibly proud of this project.”

Meet Glen Campbell begins an exciting new chapter in the 50-year career of one of America’s most beloved musical icons. On May 2, during his set at the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California, Campbell was joined onstage by special guests to premiere select songs from his new album.
