Oh, you know, an opinion is an opinion is an opinion; personally, I just took it as such. It's true that covers are tricky beasts, and covering a signature song from a band like Galaxie 500 definitely sets an artist up for failure.

I've been going through a little shoegaze phase myself, and I was actually going to go see A Sunny Day in Glasgow this weekend, but sadly I am unable to now! Aside from A Sunny Day in Glasgow, I've discovered two other recent shoegaze bands that I've fallen in love with- Rumskib and LSD and the Search for God. I highly recommend both- I personally can't stop listening to either! If you're really into Stereolab, you should look into Broadcast if you haven't given them a listen. I recently saw them live with Atlas Sound in Boston and the show was amazing- both bands put on very different shows but I think they both played off each other very nicely. Personally, my favorite album of theirs is Tender Buttons, but The Future Crayon is a close second. If you're familiar with the band The United States of America, Broadcast draws a tremendous amount of inspiration from them.

I feel the same way! My local record store got in a ton of stereolab stuff recently, which I found pretty surprising. I picked up ABC Music, The First of the Microbe Hunters, and Refried Ectoplasm (Switched On Vol. 2). Have you listened to any of those? I've heard that a lot of people don't really care for The First of the Microbe Hunters, but I enjoy that album. It was actually the first Stereolab album I listened to but I never got around to buying it.
