No deliberations this week, it's The Shins.
They are probably most famous for the song New Slang which is a very good song used in Zach Braff's Garden State.
My dad came acrossan article on them in the Guardian the other day about them and their new album (which I didn't know about) and so immediately went and downloaded it.
It didn't disappoint. It's definately at least on a par with Chutes Too Narrow and Oh, Inverted World, if not better. For those who don't know, the new album is called Wincing The Night Away.
It's more of the same from the American outfit; although they can make the perfect sunny pop song (a la The Beach Boys), but they are lyrically superb, often rather depressing, yet the music never drifts that way as a whole.
Let's carve my aging face off
Fetch us a knife
Start with my eyes
Down so the lines
Form a grimacing smile
Reads pretty grim, but it sounds so good!
Tunes:
Sleeping Lessons
Split Needles
Kissing The Lipless
