Tue 19 Aug – Rod Stewart and Santana
Before the show started I decided to go get a t-shirt and asked the guy if there was just one t-shirt I could by with both of them on it and the tour dates. The answer was "No" but not just because they wanted me to buy two t-shirts! The t-shirt seller said originally Steve Winwood
was supposed to open for Rod Stewart. Interesting tidbit.......Santana
began promptly at 7:30 p.m. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=517Ss_CyGiQOye Como Va
was among the first few songs. They did a cute rendition of Tequila along with Jingo
and Everybody's Everything
from Santana III
and they also performed the big Rob Thomas
and a bunch of others I'm sure I'm forgetting. It was a great set, and they were over about 9:00 p.m. Rod Stewart
started around 9:30 p.m. I had to hustle to get through the line at the ladies' room and get a beer, lol, and heard it start while I was still in line.
Rod did all the songs you wanted him to. What I liked about his presentation was a stark stage with all the right people, and everybody dressed up. Rod changed outfits about four times. I kept watching him walk off during the show--I had a good vantage point for that and assumed it was a costume change, which it was.
He also performed a artist]Faces song, Stay With Me
He called Carlos Santana
back to the stage and they did a song together.
In the middle of the show, Rod performed some ballads. Somebody screamed at him and Rod said "Shut the F*** up, I'm talking!"
He kicked personally autographed soccer balls into the audience during Hot Legs
but he couldn't quite get it up to the nosebleed seats!
Another gimmick was releasing balloons from the ceiling at the end--if you watch my video, you will see balloons all over the place at the end. I saw a lady on the DC Metro going back home with a couple balloons and that was about 11 p.m., so it was a good, long show. The sound was good. That song at the end with the balloons was Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?
