Hey, I've added you. Though admittedly I don't go there often, basically only when I get a notification though my e-mail. xD Anyway, that exhibition does sound very interesting! She sure put a lot of thought into it. =)

Hello, hello! :) I quite like the new song/ambient piece! I really like those strange little sounds that pop up throughout the song (like at the 5:11 mark). I'm not really sure why you have it tagged as "noise". Unorthodox, yes, but not exactly "noise". xD It's good to see you're still making new stuff! What's the exhibition about, anyway? I can't really tell from the name...

Every album of his is different, so it may take a few attempts to stumble upon something you'll enjoy. Something/Anything? is his mainstream success, while his cult prefers its followup, A Wizard/A True Star. Also worth mentioning is his band Utopia who released some of the finest powerpop of the 80s. I like the self-titled Utopia (1982) album best.

Haha. Very wise of you. Yeah, I do generally agree with that, but it bothers me since you can't always tell who is just "creating meaning" and who's actually giving an honest critique. You often need to be a critic yourself to figure out those things and that's not exactly an option for most people. You really do need to be very immersed in a certain type of art to be able to judge it, which makes sense, of course.

Furthermore, if a person is sufficiently intelligent and well-read he can make sa solid case for ANYTHING to be a high quality work of art. Case in point, a film critic called Armond White. The man made a living out of finding "deeper meaning" in quality movies such as Norbit: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477051/ If we follow down that road then there really isn't anything that can't be considered deep and profound by someone (and by "someone" I mean an otherwise highly educated person, not just a random dude on the street).

Ehh. My problem with looking for a "deeper meaning" is that we often tend to assign qualities to the work that weren't originally there. Case in point, our professor at the university told us a story about how they went to a banquet in the honor of one of Croatia's most celebrated poets. At that point the man was probably around 90+ years old (he died at 102). During the banquet they talked about this and that and then the poet mentioned how he heard his work discussed in our schools by teachers (some of his work was mandatory reading) and that he never understood how they came up with a lot of "deeper meanings" and explanations about his poems because he certainly wasn't thinking anything of the sort when he made them. Of course, you could say that he wasn't aware of them himself, but that the hidden qualities could have been found by someone who really studied his work for a long time, but that kind of reasoning can be applied to anything.

I've gotta say I don't have a problem with insulting religious feelings, since I find most religions to be insulting to me. xD That aside, that particular exhibition might have been good. My rant was about the installation from the film, which might have been even considered good for lovers of modern art but the way it was made was a mockery of all that art should aspire to be. And calling art that's understandable on first look "often bad and cheap" is a bit flimsy. Van Gogh painted things that were understandable, but I don't see why that should be considered worse than Picasso's abstract paintings.

Well, sure, it's important to see things in art galleries, but even then... just because you see something in the right place, it still doesn't make it GOOD art. That documentary actually deals with an art exhibition as well, and I'd say that's the high point of the film. The man who put on the art show and later sold his "art" for thousands of dollars was certainly NOT an artist of any kind, save for maybe a scam artist. But I won't get into that now. Just watch it at some point. You'll find it interesting, if nothing else.

The reasoning behind the avatar actually makes the whole thing ten times cooler. :D I'm really disappointed in a lot of modern art. It just seems so thrown together most of the time... Have you seen Exit Through the Gift Shop? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1587707/ It's a terrific documentary and it pretty much shows the reasons why I tend to dislike modern art...

Oh, I think I'll settle for happiness, thank you very much. :D I'm happy that you had such a good year. I guess my year was pretty decent too, though I'm not exactly sure this one will be better. Let's just say that things in Poland look a lot more optimistic than at my end. But, we'll see. :D
