  • How I got into metal

    Fev 21 2012, 10h01

About 6-7 I was like 11-10 years old when I got into metal and that was with the introduction of System of a Down into my life. Back then I wasn't really listening to any particular type of music, mostly arabic music and some english Pop/Hip-Hop. Back then I really liked In Da Club from 50 Cent and I remember buying some CD of 50 Cent and listening to In Da Club. One day I was at some family member's house and I saw them listening to some hard music I have never listened to, watch crazy concerts..and I was like what at the hell is this music..is this even music..going all crazy and screaming shit... But she told me that rock music has music in it unlike pop/hip-hop which is kind of computer made music and the singers talk often about love and sex, but in rock music they make the music them selfs with the guitars, bass guitar and the drums and it sounds musical. The singing isn't worthless as in pop and hip-hop, hard rock/metal lyrics often talk about injustice, war, crimes, genocide. War and genocide hit me. Because I lived in Iraq and I was there in the USA and Iraq war thank God that we didn't suffer, but it meant a lot to be and things got harder. The second is the genocide, I'm an Iraqi with an Armenian decent. Has any of you heard of the Armenian genocide? no? It was committed by the hands of the Oothman Turks in 1915 which killed about 1.5-2.0 million Armenians. Which as an Armenian was close to my heart and I liked that System of a Down did something about it to bring justice to the world, but sadly till this day the Turkish government doesn't want to acknowledge the slaughter of the Armenians. So that was close to my heart and that kept me listening to System of a Down. I actually love all of System of a Down's songs except the collaborated rap ones of course :P
