don't like it as much as Microcastle. Microcastle is sooooo good. I remember the first time I listened to Deerhunter, I was listening to "Nothing Ever Happened" and I thought it was the coolest song I had ever heard. It's still my favorite song of theirs. After Microcastle I'd say my next favorite release of theirs is the Fluorescent Grey EP. All four songs are flawless. I can't wait until they put out a new album! I hope it's more of a collective effort and less influenced by Brad, because I prefer Lockett's solo stuff to Bradford's. I mean, as far as Parallax and Spooky Action go, at least. Well, I even like The Floodlight Collective more than Logos and Let the Blind...

I'm actually not huge into literature. I always wish I read more but, you know, I'm lazy hahaha. A Good Man is Hard to Find is my favorite short story, though. There's so many different ways to look at the plot and the theme is very religious and it's just a very, VERY interesting and intriguing read. Ah yes, Paul Banks. The other love of my life (I have like 20). But seriously, he is a god. I love his voice. My favorite album by Interpol is TOTBL too! That's actually my favorite album of all time. I'm pretty sure it's like my most played album. Every song is perfect. I was a bit let down by their latest record but I think it's hard for bands to stay so consistent in their output. I mean, Turn on the Bright Lights came out in what, 2002? It's hard to stick around for 10 years and keep churning out the same quality work every time. But yeah... Deerhunter is so awesome. Coincidentally, that's my favorite album of theirs as well! Well, Weird Era Cont. is good, but I

Indeed. I always love getting a new musical obsession. And yeah, though I liked Sufjan's old style, I thought Age of Adz was simply amazing. I don't think I dislike a single thing that man has put out. I even really like A Sun Came... that album is pretty cool! Songmeanings is pretty great. It's cool to read the lyrics to a song and develop your own interpretation of it and then look at the comments and read other people's. It's always kind of rewarding to read someone's interpretation that really makes sense but you had never thought of before. Sometimes reading a single analysis of song lyrics can change your whole perspective on a song... kinda weird. No problem! I'm always trying to get people into Kurt Vile or to re-visit his music if they haven't listened to it in a while. I think he's such a fantastic musician. He's like a hero of mine. I agree, his voice is very unique! It's kinda like a lazy western drawl which is odd because he's from Philly, but I really dig it.

I also really admire that Sufjan is not afraid to incorporate religious undertones or themes in his lyrics. I used to just sit on SongMeanings and read the interpretations of his songs. I actually read the short story "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor because I had loved that song by Sufjan so much. It's a fantastic story and not too long, either. If you get the chance (if you haven't before), you should read it. Anyway, yeah... I could go on and on about Sufjan. Yes, glad you listened to Smoke Ring for my Halo again! It is mind-blowingly good. It was love on first listen for me and I still haven't gotten sick of it. In fact, I might just listen to it a little bit later. Oh man, I just looked at your charts and we have even more music in common than I initially realized. What are your favorite albums by Interpol and Deerhunter?

album again when I was on a bike ride and all of a sudden, when "While you Wait for the Others" came on, it just HIT me. I was in awe. I will seriously always remember that moment because I loved the song immediately. I've listened to it a couple hundred times now but still love it as much as the second time I heard it. I dunno how I missed its sheer genius the first time around, but I'm glad I gave the album another go, because Grizzly Bear has since become my favorite band. Ah, nice choice. That's a great song. I remember being so excited when All Delighted People came out because Suf hadn't put out new material in what seemed like forever, and I liked all the songs a lot. I just remember the rift that developed between fans because many wanted him to return to his folky and orchestral roots while others were really pleased with the experimental, electronic route he had taken. What's your favorite album of his? Mine is Seven Swans. That album is perfection to me.

Nope, I've never seen Animal Collective live before. I've watched performances on youtube and everything though, so I know what the shows are like and I'm pretty stoked for this one. Yep, both Kurt Vile and Warpaint opened for Bright Eyes. I had heard of Warpaint but hadn't given them a listen before the concert... they were impressive. They almost reminded me of a female version of Interpol in a way. Ugh, Grizzly Bear opening for Radiohead?! That sounds like the best concert ever! And yea, watching The National perform is pretty entertaining haha. I agree, Shields is still really fresh and amazing. I don't anticipate I'll tire of it any time soon... Yeah, I'm always keeping track of my favorite songs and albums and all that. I like making lists and categorizing things, so I established a while back that that was my favorite song. I remember the first time I listened to Veckatimest, nothing really stuck out at me besides "Two Weeks," but a few months later I listened to the

because he's always crazy drunk and stumbling around on stage screaming lyrics like a fool. It's hilarious. Yeah, Panda's stuff is good. I think he's a better producer than Avey. Actually, I'm not even entirely sure what a producer does, but I just feel like Panda makes better sounding songs than Avey does, as is evidenced by the fact that all of his solo albums are far superior to Down There. Well, maybe not Young Prayer and his self-titled, but Tomboy and Person Pitch for sure. I totally agree that there is this air of magic in "Gun-Shy"... I just love that little noise in the background that happens every few seconds. Like.... man. I don't even know. That song is superb. Well, that's actually not a hard question for me to answer. My favorite song of all-time just happens to be a Grizzly Bear song... "While you Wait for the Others!" What's your favorite song of all-time? If I had time, maybe I'd try to learn an instrument. I'm lazy though... that's just my excuse haha.

Haha yeah, the only reason I don't want to crash their wedding and ruin their marriage is because they actually look like they make a great couple. I hope Grizzly Bear plays where I live, too. I mean... I basically live in Las Vegas, and you'd think since it's a pretty well-populated and well-known city that we'd get some good concerts and shows, but... you'd be wrong. I maybe end up attending one or two concerts a year, and not because I can't make any shows, but because we never get any good artists. That's why I'm so stoked about the AnCo show I'm going to on the 25th. It'll be my first concert in a year and a day, I think. I saw Bright Eyes, Kurt Vile, and Warpaint last year on the 24th of this month. Kinda crazy. You've seen Grizzly Bear?! :O I'm so jealous! I knowwww, that music video is really good. I'd really want to meet Matt. He just seems so badass and cool but really genuine and down-to-earth at the same time. I love watching The National's live performances

All I know is "Scheherazade" is one of the most chill, relaxing songs ever. Yeah, Dan's playing style is very unique. What's your favorite song off of Shields so far? I can't decide between "Speak In Rounds" and "Gun-Shy." There are so many stand-out tracks on Shields. I actually feel like every track is a stand-out track haha. I took piano lessons for a few months in third grade but gave up on that for whatever reason. I always thought it would be awesome to learn how to play an instrument but it's probably too late for me to learn and get good at one. That's cool that you love playing guitar so much!

I found myself missing the vocal harmonies that the girls did on Bitte Orca while listening to Swing Lo. It was just Dave's voice and it got boring quick. I wish! As sad as I am, I wish them the best. You can read all about the wedding on their website: http://lockettandshayda.com/. Ah, isn't it though? I think "Baby's Arms" is in my top 10 of favorite album openers ever. Indeed, it's very cool to see an artist whose work you admire perform right in front of you. I'm dying to see Grizzly Bear but they're not coming to my city as of yet. Yeah lol, genres are terrible. Boxer is my third favorite, I think, while Alligator and High Violet alternate as my favorite. Matt Berninger probably holds the position of my favorite male vocalist. I love his baritone. I actually do like Panda's solo stuff a lot, too. Better than Avey's, at least. And maybe it's just me, but I think I prefer Tomboy to Person Pitch. Then again, maybe not... I have to give them both more thorough listens.

Also yeah, Daniel Rossen is a superb musician. I don't play any instruments, sadly. If that's you in your last.fm avatar, I assume you play guitar?

Unwound is this crazy good, crazy talented post-hardcore noise rock-ish (I hate genres and labels because I find them to be really arbitrary and too specific to adequately categorize a number of bands) band that formed in the 90's in Washington. They broke up in like 2001/2002 but their legacy lives on, for sure. I actually discovered them on last.fm, not because they were recommended (their music isn't like something I'd normally listen to) but because I thought their main picture was awesome and that they looked cool. Turns out their music is pretty amazing too. My favorite album by The National WAS High Violet, but upon listening to Alligator and Boxer more and more, it could be any of the three. My favorite song is probably "Karen" or "Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks." What's your favorite album of theirs? And Cloud Nothings' new album really impressed me after I thought their first was terribly mediocre. "New Town Burnout" is one of Panda's songs on Centipede Hz, right?

You & Me was the standout album to me when I listened to The Walkmen's discography a long while back. I'll definitely listen to it some more, and Lisbon too. I really wanted to like Swing Lo Magellan and was super stoked about it but was left feeling completely let down. Dirty Projectors in general always tend to create unusual song structures with their lack of catchy choruses and implementation of vocal harmonies, but with their latest album it was mostly just David singing along to weird, jumbled instrumentation. Bitte Orca is still great, though. And Rise Above might be even better. Ugh, Lockett Pundt!! That man is my hero. Did you know he's getting married on Saturday? I'm devastated haha. Yes, please re-visit Smoke Ring for my Halo. That album defined 2011 for me. Just driving around at night with all the dust and empty desert and city lights and that CD playing... good stuff. I saw him live almost exactly a year ago and it was one of the highlights of my life.

(actually, I've been hooked on it for over a year), as well as Unwound's album Leaves Turn Inside You (and Unwound's music in general) and The National's albums. As far as music from 2k12, I liked Cloud Nothings' new record and Dan Rossen's EP... haven't listened to much else. And obv LP's Spooky Action at a Distance. I haven't given Centipede Hz enough listens but it didn't impress me too much upon my first. "New Town Burnout" seems to be a favorite among many from what I've read on forums and such on the internet. Anyway, sorry for such a long reply!

Hahaha yeah, I know exactly what you mean! It's like you're excited but then you're apprehensive because you want it to be really good but you're worried that it might not be. And you pretend like you've set the bar low but secretly, in the back of your mind, you know you're expecting it to be amazing. It's a vicious cycle of emotions. I listened to Heaven once and enjoyed it and I've wanted to really get into The Walkmen but it just hasn't happened yet. I go through phases of "getting into" bands where I listen to them almost exclusively and my play counts skyrocket. I'm gonna give it another go with The Walkmen and see if it clicks. I like them but I just haven't connected to them yet. Honestly, I thought the new Dirty Projectors album was sub-par. There were no melodies, no hooks... I just didn't think it was catchy or at the very least, PLEASING to listen to. Spooky Action was my AOTY until Shields haha. I've been hooked on Kurt Vile's Smoke Ring for my Halo recently

Indeed... I feel like I set my expectations low so that I won't be disappointed if an artist's new album isn't as great as its past efforts. Thankfully, Grizzly Bear came out with something even better, which is good, considering I was a little let down by AnCo's new album. What have been some of your favorite records that came out this year? I've been hung up on the same old albums these past few months and haven't been keeping up with current music so I want to listen to something new. I'd appreciate any recs you could give me!

Yeah, it's kind of ridiculous how good it is. I wasn't anticipating Shields to let me down but I was sure it couldn't surpass the greatness of their other three albums... but it pretty much blew me out of the water. It far exceeded my expectations, that's for sure. And it definitely solidified its spot that I had pre-determined as my AOTY.
