  • Shell.FM v0.7 released.

    The last release (v0.6) was almost one year ago, so here is another one. v0.7 can be downloaded as tarball from GitHub . Here are some of the bigger changes since the last release, for a complete list (including bugfixes etc.) check the log at GitHub.

    Added "screen-format" option to set GNU screen window titles on track change.
    When "term-format" is set to a format string, shell-fm will set the terminals window title on track-change now.
    When option "download" is set to a path including format flags, free tracks are saved and tagged (with taglib support)

  • Shell.FM Support

    In the last weeks, several people came to our IRC channel (#shell-fm on irc.freenode.org), asked for support and disappeared again before was able to answer. I'm sorry that I can't be the channel all the time to answer requests, but I have a real life too. :) So if you have a problem with shell-fm and you don't get an answer in the channel immediately, stay around for some time as I might be sleeping or working or something else. If you don't get an answer in, say 24h, don't hesitate and send me an email to shell-fm@nex.scrapping.cc.

    Hi all,

    I just uploaded v0.5 to the shell-fm website. The tarball is here.

    Here are the new features:

  • rudimentary volume control
  • "change-delay" option (delays changing to a new station until after the current track finished)
  • finally a complete manual
  • recommendations work
  • adding tracks to playlist works
  • unlove works
  • option -b (batch mode)
  • template support for 'i'-output
  • option "minimum" for adjusting how long a track must be played until it may be scrobbled
  • lots of minor improvements and bug fixes (see CHANGES)

  • Shell.FM 0.4 released!

    Hi all,

    I just released Shell.FM 0.4. The source is available at the website (http://nex.scrapping.cc/shell-fm/) or from the subverison repository.

    I'd like to thank all contributors, testers and bug reporters for their support.

    This is new in version 0.4:


    • Support for the new protocol.

    • Builtin scrobbling (part of the new protocol).

    • Replaced libreadline and libncurses with an own readline function.

    • Better tab completion for radio URLs, tags etc.

    • Made more functions available over the network interface.

    • Many HTTP requests are now cached for being more speedy.

    • Love and bans are now done via XMLRPC, not the old web interface.

  • New Shell.FM Player with Support for Protocol 1.2

    Hi all,

    in the last weeks I rewrote/added a lot of code to make shell-fm compatible to the new Last.FM radio and submissions protocol. I think the new player is doing very fine now, but it'll need some more testing before I can release a beta or even stable version.
    If you want to help making shell-fm ready for a release, please check out the new source from its branch (svn://nex.scrapping.cc/shell-fm/branches/1.2) and simply use it. If you find anything that seems to be wrong, annoying or clearly a bug, please contact me.

    I'm almost always available in the shell-fm channel…

    small Perl script, SLCLient to use Shell.FM with an LCDProc display. Displays working with LCDProc are little LCD/VFD displays often found on stereo components. The SLClient script prints the songtitle, artist and remaining time (configurable) to such a display.
