I didn't get to see MBV, but I heard they were amazing. It was a toss up but in the end I didn't have time to grab tickets. :( GY!BE, Converge and Swans were all fucking awesome. I ended up being given free tickets to Sabbath a few nights ago and they were surprisingly good. Now I've just got Tool on Saturday. I'm hoping they're good. PBTT are rolling in in July, and Deftones are in two weeks. After that I'm seeing The Beards in June, as well as Boris, which I can't wait for. I also just missed out on seeing DZ Deathrays and Dead Letter Circus this year. I'm so cut.

How'd Converge end up for you? See any good gigs lately? You going to Tool/PBTT/Deftones in the next few months?

Damn straight. Saw Swans last night with my girlfriend and they were absolutely incredible. I still feel sick. Tonight is GY!BE and then Converge on Saturday. Gonna be awesome. Let me know how ATP is. Surviving other bands as well as Swans is going to be tough, though. I could barely walk out after their 2.5 hr set.

Same, I find that I honestly don't get around to most albums until a year after they're released, so I've been just finding out about a lot of 2011 gems this year. Burial's Kindred is another 2012 release in my top 5, new GY!BE is amazing at this point, and I also loved Trioscapes, Sudatsuga, Aesop Rock and Love American.

Right now it's pretty much a tie between Swans' The Seer, which is absolutely amazingly brilliant, and Paper Spine, a release by a local post-hardcore band that absolutely blows anything I've heard in a similar style out of the water, and then some. Paper Spine is also my most-played album of the year, by far. But I just heard new GY!BE, and with Deftones, Neurosis, and a few others on the way in the next few months, my AOTY will probably change by then. Not to mention all the releases I should've heard by now (Dark Time Sunshine, Death Grips, etc). Yourself?

Ha, yeah, I know the feeling. And I know, I was really disappointed. I mean, I'd probably catch Tomahawk, APC, Kyuss, or Periphery if I was there, but there's no bands that make me want to go and get a ticket right fucking now, like there was in 2011 with Maiden/Primus/Gang of Four/Protest the Hero, and this year with Kvelertak/letlive/Thursday/Dillinger/Times of Grace/Meshuggah.

Did you end up catching Rosetta, dude? I missed them. :( Also, seen the new Soundwave lineup?!

Yo, Puzzles from Sputnik (He's from Brisbane, top guy) just released an EP for free download. It makes me feel really inadequate about my musical output, considering he's the same age as me, but it's crazy good. Check it!

Sooner would probably be better. I think Annandale sold their quota out, but you can still get them on Oztix as far as I'm aware. Also, that is some awesome funk!

Sept. 29 at the Annandale, my friend. Tickets are a bit steep for Annandale at $39, but I've heard good things about their live show, so I forked it out. Also, a lack of a newcastle show means that half of sputnik's NSW chapter will be there probably. ;)

I've never been a Meshuggah fan. I was gonna see them, but I decided to spend the time they were playing to go around finding food and checking out random bands out of boredom.

Devin Townsend, dredg, Bad Religion (I was pissed because the set broke while they were playing and their show was cut short, then Limp Bizkit came on early and started wanking around while Bad Religion were trying to get the set fixed. Seriously, fuck Limp Bizkit.), Mastodon. They were the only real highlights, the rest I saw were let downs. Black Dahlia, Gojira, System of a Down, Slipknot, Raised Fist were all let downs, quite boring to be honest. I was pissed I missed out on seeing Dillinger. I saw Marilyn Manson for laughs and it was abhorred.
