Great list. Some comments: -Brassens should be in France, he's much more important than Gainsbourg, and 10 times more important than Yann Tiersen, who is mostly known abroad just because of the soundtrack of Amelie, but isn't that big actually You could add Vietnam (with Trinh Cong Son and Khanh Ly) and Cambodia (with Sinn Sisamouth) thanks for the list anyway, I ll try to listen to those I don't know :-)

Moreover, Yma Sumac isn't that big too, and not peruvian, but just peruvian born. There are many artists more important than her (chicha, criolla music, afro-peruvian music...) For Cuba, Ibrahim Ferer and Compay secundo are not that important neither, they just became very famous with buena vista social club but that's it: a world music band produced by americans, good but not fondamental. System of a down is not "armenian music", they are from armenian descent, it's quite different... But really happy to see a list like this anyway

nice try but actually its a big bullshit to rank them. and if you do it, england should be the 1st. anyway its good to know some band from other countries. 13th japan? LOL. just 17th sweden? ROFL. you did a lot of work with it and i like the idea, its just not possible.

    Mai 27 2009, 17h41
  • Treviz

yeah ofc but its still a fucking joke that they are above sweden.

I'm glad that you've put Poland on a high 12th place. But if you appreciate not only a sung poetry or classical music, try to Myslovitz and Maria Peszek, I think you'll like it. I wonder why you haven't put Queen in English music, after all Freddy Mercury's is the best voice ever.

    17. SWEDEN Sweden is the 3rd largest music exporter in the world after U.S.A and the UK. And we have 9 million inhabitants. I think we would have deserverd a little higher rank;)

the link to "best russian band ever" Piknik is incorrect! by the way, it can be argued. here, in Russia, Kino (Кино), Alisa (Алиса) and Aquarium (Аквариум) are considered to be the most influential bands

yep. i agree with Carlos Paredes and Amália Rodrigues, they are definitely two of the greatest musicians ever. But nelly furtado, first isn't that great (her lyrics are nothing special..) and shes from canada. Give a look at José Afonso, Mariza, Dulce Pontes (youtube.com/watch?v=_0ZDxH_wzgM), Madredeus.
