Creedence Clearwater Revival - Platinum

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R6nmKjcSeU

John Fogarty is a blues guitar hero. The voice of his guitar is as distinctive as that of Jimi /Hendrix or Mark Knopfler. He also wrote many classics. He did much of his best work as the leader of the band Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Yes, it is a album, but, even with my advanced years, the original success of CCR was slightly before my time; I am unfamiliar with the individual albums. My most vivid CCR memory is recognising Bad Moon Rising on the track of An American Werewolf In London.

After the band split, John got into arguments with the other members about royalties. John felt (IMO rightly) that his was the major contribution and that they were his songs. He deduced (IMO wrongly) that this meant the other band members had no claim on them. As a result John refused to talk to, or perform with, the surviving band members when CCR were inducted into the rock 'n' roll hall of fame.

My Grandmother had six sisters and a brother. They were always squabbling amongst themselves. They used to fall out and stop talking to each other for a while and then they would make up. Until, as they aged, death began to intervene. The reconciliations that, therefore, failed to happen, caused several of them unnecessary grief at the end of their lives.

Not Talking never solved anything
Talking sometimes solves some things

In protest about these sad conflicts, I have chosen to ensure that both videos are for cover versions. I Put A Spell On You is a cover of Nina Simone. The oldest recording of the midnight special that I know of is by leadbelly, but I presume that it is older.

On a more positive note, John funded the gravestones for many of the early jazz greats who died destitute. I have illustrated one such above. It reminds me that Janis Joplin bought bessie smith's stone as recounted by dory previn in Stone For Bessie Smith.
