My Best Albums of 2011

Dez 19 2011, 8h53

This is not a ranked list, just a random order. I enjoyed listening to all these albums. I've tried to put the genres next to Albums where possible, if you decide to give them a listen. Direct link to the albums is in blue, along with youtube previews at the bottom.

1. White Denim - D (D) psychedelic rock, experimental, dub, blues
The jam on 'at the farm' is brilliant. They are topping my list for must see in 2012.

2. Moby - Destroyed (Destroyed) electronica
Great late night album, talk about hotel insomnia. I describe it as a soundtrack to a movie where someone is about to kill himself.

3. Nero - Welcome reality (Welcome Reality) dubstep, drum & bass, electronica
Just listening to Innocence puts me back into festival mood.

4. Cage the Elephant - Thank you, Happy Birthday (Thank You, Happy Birthday) garage, grunge, alternative rock, punk
Aberdeen is my favorite track on the album. These guys are awesome live.

5. Radiohead - The King of Limbs (The King of Limbs) alternative rock
I have a feeling Thom Yorke will put in a dubstep record soon. The Lotus Flower video cracks me up all the time, but there is a different aspect of it which only the fans will get. Brilliant song, great album.

6. Black keys - El Camino (El Camino) blues rock, garage
I enjoyed this record more than 'Brothers'. 'Little Black Submarines' was so close to pulling a Led Zeppelin. (The guy in the lonely boy video totally beats Thom Yorke)

7. CunninLynguists - Oneirology (Oneirology) hip hop, rap
This is a very unique hip/hop album.

8. Alex turner - Submarine (OST) (submarine OST) acoustic, indie, folk
I like Arctic Monkeys, IT Crowd, and Moss is my favorite character. The film is Richard Ayoade's directorial debut and soundtrack is not bad at all. Yet to see the film, i think i will like it.

9. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds (brit-rock, alternative)
If you like Oasis, you would know Noel. Not a bad solo effort.

10. Gary Clark Jr. - The Bright Lights EP (blues rock)
Expecting big things from the album due in 2012.

11. Burial - Street Halo EP (dubstep)
I know this album is going to be huge in 2012.

12. Wilco - The Whole Love (country, alternative rock)
The Art of Almost is a great opening to this album.

Other Honorable Mentions

TV on the Radio - Nine Types of Light (alternative)
Destroyer - Kaputt (indie, alt rock)
M83 - Hurry Up We're Dreaming (alt rock, electronica)
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light (rock, punk, alt rock)
Tycho - Dive (electronica, alt)
Jay-Z & Kanye West - Watch the Throne (rap, hip hop)
My Morning Jacket - Circuital (rock, alt rock, blues)
Robbie Robertson - How To Become Clairvoyant(blues, rock)
James Blake - James Blake (dubstep, electronica, alt)
Tech N9ne - All 6's And 7's (rap)
Light Bearer - Lapsus (metal)
Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver indie, folk

nice, I'll definitely check some of these out! however an album that's like 'a soundtrack to a movie where someone is about to kill himself' .. well doesn't sound super encouraging... ;p I think I know what you meant though. / I'm not a massive Moby fan so I'll probably ignore the record anyway/ and I'm pointing that out .... for no good reason... btw as for the 'Lonely Boy' video I love the head that appears for a split second in the 'office' window ( 0:30 )
