Film School: Hideout on 9-11, fall tour

Originally posted on Puddlegum.net

Film School will deliver their sophomore full-length, Hideout, on September 11 via Beggars Banquet. Phil Ek, who just finished producing Band of Horses‘ new disc, mixed the new Film School album. Beggars Banquet is offering a 7″ with every pre-order of Hideout. The vinyl will include an edited version of Dear Me, and the b-side is March Hike.

Greg Berten shared with Puddlegum that Hideout is, “probably more lush and swirly and driving, maybe more experimental in tones as well, than the last album. To me it’s our sound and sentiment, but more realized. There are some female vocals and guest musicians on the album as well, which adds to the diversity.”

Film School - Hideout tracklist:
01 Dear Me
02 Lectric
03 Meanmedian Mode
04 Sick Hipster Nursed by Suicide Girl
05 Must Try Easier
06 Two Kinds
07 Capitalized I
08 Go Down Together
09 Compare
10 Florida
11 Blizzard Scout
12 Plots and Plans
13 What I Meant to Say

“Written largely in Greg Bertens’ Los Angeles apartment, recorded in both LA and San Francisco studios with engineer Dan Long, mixed by Phil Ek (Built to Spill, Band of Horses, The Shins, Stephen Malkmus), and produced by Bertens, Hideout builds on the band’s pretty, shoegazer pop and richly textured space-rock soundscapes by emphasizing powerful rhythms and beautiful melodies that take the songwriting to a new level. Bertens signature vocal delivery shows more breadth on this release, and evokes a plaintive longing that is magnified by the addition of female voices, courtesy of bassist Lorelei Plotcyzk and guest vocalists Tracy Uba (Timonium) and Leah Piehl. Other guest musicians loaning their talents to the album are Colm O’Ciosoig and Paul Wilson.” (Beggars Banquet)

Film School have a tour planned for October, running into the first week of November. Land of Talk will join them on the road for a ten day stretch as the band travels the East Coast, Midwest, and Ontario.
