Sobre mim

Roman Pistolato was born in 1953 in the Italian Swiss mountain town of Olivone. His father was the village baker and captain of the alpine rescue team. His mother, a woman of Polish origin whose theatrical family came to Switzerland as refugees in 1939, was a grade school drama teacher. On his ninth birthday, his father was killed in an avalanche whilst attempting to reach a group of mountaineers trapped on the ice cliffs of the Rheinwaldhorn. His father’s body was never found. His mother died one year later and he was sent to Los Angeles, California to be raised by his mother’s sister, the wife of a well known British film director living and working in the United States. Though having spent the formative years of his adolescence steeped in American culture, he turned down a scholarship to study English Literature at Stanford University and returned to Switzerland to serve mandated military service. Having completed basic training, he was selected to join the elite Swiss Special Forces. As part of his tour of duty, he spent twelve months in Rome as a sniper assigned to the Close Protection Unit of the Swiss Guard at Vatican City. He spent a total of four years in the armed forces before leaving to study at Lausanne University where, in 1983, he received a Master of Theology degree. He spent the next two years travelling throughout the Middle East and Persia studying the influences of pre-Abrahamic creation mythology on the three great monotheistic faiths. He returned to Lausanne with the intention of pursuing a Doctorate degree. For reasons never explained, he suddenly abandoned the academic world to take up the position of janitorial custodian at Lausanne Cathedral, where he worked until 2005.
He married late in life and lives with his Jordanian born wife, a former war reporter for British Television whom he met when caught in the crossfire of a bloody battle in Bethlehem, during the Second Palestinian Intifada. Today, they live quietly in the Cheneau-de-Bourg quarter of Lausanne. They are rarely seen in public except in the taking of their evening meals at the Cafe de Grutli, or sitting on a park bench on the cathedral esplanade during the ringing of the Christian Sabbath bells.
Roman PIstolato is the author of the celestial noir novel 'The Watchers' set in Lausanne Cathedral, and 'Saddamistan, a story of love and war' (to be published in 2009 and 2010 respectively). He is currently writing a novel set in Manuel Noriega's Panama as the American Army invaded to be titled, 'Banana Republic'. Roman Pistolato is also thought to be the ghost author of the best selling, cult classic of war reportage titled, 'War Junkie'.
He believes LastFM to be the last radio station on planet Earth.
