Sobre mim
I have been a DJ all my life. I've worked "professionally" on FM stations in Boston and SF from 1979 till 1996. While getting paid for FM shlock, I always had a COLLEGE radio show to keep me sane. In commercial you have to pretend to like. I like the music i like. At work i quickly learnt
IF THEY LIKE IT I HATE IT
to which you can reverse as well
On non commerical i am continuously overwhelmed. There are MILLIONS of GREAT songs that are out there that will never be heard commercially. I feel bad for the ARTISTS, but i know that if they acheive success, become MAINSTREAM, i usually kiss 'em goodbye.
i only like produced, recorded music. NINETY percent of live music is not worth my time when I could be at home, snug. I don't drink at 6 dollars a beer and i don't STAND for hours. 3 minutes is my current duration. I'm in a wheelchair. I don't think I'm missing nothin. Most of TODAYS (not the 60's or god no, the original era of R&R) musicians are simply NOT performers. They simply cannot and do not bother to connect with the audience in even the most superficial way. Most lack the basic manners to even say HELLO. Often when i used to see a band, i wouldn't like them as much when i saw them live- like Cat power, Bob Dylan (possibly the worst live performer of all time...)
If I like it, my teeny college radio audience usually likes it to and that makes me happy. I have almost 100 people on my list and am grateful to be able to ROCK for them. There is a great joy to know that you can share your love with the people. I would rather have 100 people of quality than one million of the rabble. The senseless babble of the goddamn rabble.
I play ROCK from the 1950's, when all the great melodies were just being unmined. The 1960's, 'specially 1963 -(before the Beatles came and ruined it!)-the outpouring of creativity was unbenownst in cultural history. The 70's when punk broke, post punk art rock 80's, indie 90's and so far only FIREY FURNACES and ELECTRELANE of the 2000's is just about where I'm at. I hate disco, rap hip hop and jazz. I become physically ill when I hear HOUSE music. There was a silent hipster who claimed to be a NY DJ. I almost killed him, there on the dance floor...
"I, sir, am a DEEJAY!!!! I KNOW DJ'S!! YOU, sir, are NO DJ!!!"
BEATS per minute doth not count as a KNOWLEDGE of music you imposter!!
I feel bad for the KIDS growing up today. Top 40 was so so so good in the 60's but the popular music today sucks. RAP cannot be considered music, it's a dirty nursery rhyme. Shake yo Ass shake yo ass shake yo ass, so so immature.... There is no tune, PLEASE. Most of TODAYS CHARTS sound like that CROONING thats so popular on AMERICAN IDOL. Kids, that is the music, you know, that MY parents listened to in the 1930's and 40's!!!!!
THAT is what we FOUGHT AGAINST in the first place!!!!! Why are the PARENTS more rebellious than the KIDS nowadays?!? That don't make no sense. KIDS- Get off the couch and GO OUTSIDE!!! The culture is disintegrating and its YOUR fault. We did our best and you are taking away what we gained for you. INGRATES!!!
And that's me and why i have no friends! Well, 3 now. (who ARE these guys??)
