Best Music in 2009

Jan 23 2010, 20h52

This years list has to work without any special order - so I choose the alphabet.
Also this year was focused on songs for me. As a lot of those are not included on the best albums, they need a special list.

The best songs from 2009

Vic Chesnutt - Coward
Swan Lake - Spanish Gold, 2044
must have been tokyo - Streetkids
Bat for Lashes - Glass
Elvis Perkins in Dearland - Shampoo
Ghost of Tom Joad - Into the Wild
Noisettes - Every Now And Then
Major Lazer - Hold the Line
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Kisses Over Babylon
Frank Turner - The Road
Ja, Panik - Pardon
Bruce Springsteen - Outlaw Pete

And here they are: The best albums from 2009.

Alberta Cross - Broken Side of Time
Brings back memories of the 80s when I was listening to Green on Red, The Dream Syndicate, Giant Sand and all those Arizona Bands.

Antony and the Johnsons - The Crying Light
The one or two overwhelming songs are missing this time [like there were Cripple and the Starfish or Hope There's Someone on the last albums] but nevertheless these are big emotions.

Crippled Black Phoenix - The Resurrectionists / Night Raider
I would not have thought the second [and third] album to be that good. I was a bit afraid of what I might find, because I loved Crippled Black Phoenix - A Love of Shared Disasters so much...

Do Make Say Think - Other Truths
Post Rock from the easy and sunny side - no drama at all.

Ghost of Tom Joad - Matterhorn
Got the most listenings this year.

Heavy - The House That Dirt Built
The first half of this album is so great, that the seond half is really struggling.

Ja, Panik - The Angst And The Money
Only german singing band with heavy rotations this year.

Metric - Fantasies
Pop Pop Pop - shut up all you "bäh...I liked them more when they were ni mainstream pop"-shouters. This is great Pop!

Mono - Hymn To The Immortal Wind
Drama, baby. Drama! Majestic music.

Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band - Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band
The ideas on this album could have made up five or more albums. I am curious if they still have some ideas or if they are empty now.

Polly Scattergood - Polly Scattergood
Pop Pop Pop [again - but this time it is really not a mainstream thing].

Sounds Like Violence - The Devil on Noble Street
To like this album, I had to forget about what they had done in the past. Imagine this is their debut - then you can see the greatness.

Veils - Sun Gangs
Different stiles that fit perfectly together.
