:) Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you... busy busy busy. I don't notice everything, just various things. Music lovers just are who they are. I love last.fm because I do find artists that I never would find elsewhere... that's important to me. I hope all is well with you and that you're enjoying life. I must admit that it is time for the spring has come in my mind... I've had enough of winter now.

Well, after ditching the PhD, I have been job hunting for over a year. It's nothing special (information management specialist and volunteer coordinator) but it is permanent and I can move around in the government after a year. My volunteer work is nuts, I'm taking a palliative care course (to sit with people as they pass on), I volunteer with St John ambulance at events and provide first aid if necessary (did an advanced first aid course for that and will do an EMR course when I have time), and am on the transportation crew for three festivals (and am the lead transportation person for the Jazz festival, second in command for WordFest, and just driving artists around at the Folk Fest). I also am an area steward at a conservation area just south of the city. I also do other things, but those are the main ones. What do you do? I can't believe that it's snowing again...

Things are going really well. I start a new job with the federal government on Monday so I'm really looking forward to new challenges. Taking courses, doing lots of volunteer work, and just trying to live life well - to the best of my ability. : )

Nope, it's the folk music festival in calgary http://www.calgaryfolkfest.com/users/folder.asp?FolderID=1755 terribly exciting!! I also just signed up to do the first aid at the Canmore folk fest, so that should be fun. Yeah, the computer thing sucks, but that's life. There are lots of good music events coming up, it's exciting! How are things going for you?

Hey, it's been a while. I've just not been online hardly at all (my computer hard drive died, etc). I just signed up to volunteer for the folk music festival and will drive the artists to and from the airport, etc. (it's the same volunteer thing I do for WordFest) I'm seriously looking forward to the festival! I've never gone before, but have always wanted to. How are things for you?

8D That is me in my glasses grooving to Low - you might need to turn your head to the side to catch a glimpse. Last night I volunteered at STOMP and you know I thought it would be crap because I generally don't like 'mainstream' things, but it actually was really good... I blush at my closeminded attitude towards popular culture.

Are you excited to get out your opera glasses to view young Philip and also hear his symphony tomorrow night?

I haven't found it always easy adjusting to the places I've lived (Europe, Asia, and S. America). I find that it takes about a year to get comfortable, find people you can trust, and figure out what the culture is about. Each place has beauty and deformities - they just take different forms. It feels important to stay true to yourself, regardless of what anyone else expects/wants of you, to keep things in perspective, and to appreciate the positive of what is around you (whether that is in nature, other people, or a good night sleep). Am I the poster child for what I espouse? No, but it's a process like everything else. Oh, and those are great glasses you're wearing. I wonder where I could pick up a pair :D

That made me laugh. Well, I thought it would be nice to hear his "Low" symphony, which is what the CPO will be playing. I was also looking at the Kronos Quartet and Philip Glass playing Dracula... but I don't see it as one of the options to volunteer for although it is at the Jack Singer (one of the venues I volunteer for to do the medical stuff). Well, I hope it comes on my volunteer list so I can hear that concert. It's too bad you missed the film at the festival, but welcome to Calgary! I hope the city treats you well. I'm a native Calgarian and I can tell you the city has really changed in the last 10 years and has become much less friendly with the rapid growth. It is a red-neck part of the country, but the mountains are utterly sublime and I hope you can enjoy them while here - and that you have enough warm clothes :D

Hi there - I entirely appreciate you telling me that. I did know that he's playing on the 21st, but can't afford the $69 for the ticket. I will be volunteering as part of the medical team to cover the philharmonic concert which is how I can 'afford' it. I'll be able to see it if no one has a heart attack :D I asked the High Performance Rodeo if I could volunteer for them, hoping to see that concert and found out that the grand theatre are staffing it with their own, so I'll be volunteering at other HPR events and still missing it on the 21st (such is life - it's funny really). Did you see the Glass film in the Calgary International Film Festival in September? It was fantastic! He really is quite an amazing man and I'd give my right arm to hear him live but just can't manage it at the moment. I really do hope that you enjoy it though, I'm sure it will be amazing!
