Have you listened to any Black Box Recorder yet? NB You're on 11 total plays at the mo (since 20 April 2008) - WTF?

L7? I think I've only ever heard Pretend We're Dead, tbh, but they're not exactly Ver Slits, are they? Or ARE they? Oh, you MUST investigate Black Box Recorder. The England Made Me elpee is a ker-lassic. I'm not going to ATP now - all my mates dropped out (one of them choosing to spend their money on buying a flat - how selfish!), so I flogged off the chalet :(

I'll have you know that I bought Grandmaster Flash's The Message when it was first released - I had to order it in especially from my local record/clothing shop (which was called Disc'n'Denim!). Obviously I've not purchased a rap record since.

I *was* joking about the black American thing, you know.

I always wanted to 'interview' (ie. get trashed with) Courtney Love, although I fear she'd be an absolute hellbore. She was my Big Gay Girl Crush for many a year. I've never heard a single thing by Ludacris. Where/why should I start? Please bear in mind that, as an 80s schmindie boy (at heart), I tend not to listen to anything by a) Americans and b) Non-Caucasians.

I think you doth protest too much. If you were 22 and someone said "fancy a free, all-expenses-paid trip to Chicago, staying in a five-star swanko-pad, but the catch is you have spend 90 minutes with Nob Job Bovi?" I very much you'd say "no". Life in the fast lane indeed. I give you three weeks before you turn into Keith Moon.

Well, there was irony implicit in the 'positively ancient', in reaction to your 'Oh my God'. Music journalising does have its benefits if you can swing overseas trips and soforth (I got to interview Jon Bon Jovi in Chicago - lucky me! - and Cyndi Lauper in Manhattan - she was wonderful), and it's great if you can champion new bands (mine was Belle & Sebastian), BUT it generally doesn't pay very well, and you end up having to live off the proceeds of selling off promo CDs by the end of the month. Plus, there's not really much in the way of a music press left nowadays. You'll have a blast at ATP. If nothing else, immerse yourself in the music, and feel free to shout me up for a non-alcoholic beverage. It WILL be booze central, of course. Indie kids + non-'normative' playground = chaos.

Evenin', squire. Yes, I'm positively ancient (39), although I'm lucky (?) enough to be mistaken for late 20s by most people. In a good light, every third weekend of a leap year. Hurrah. I went to a Nick Cave press thing once (I was a music journo for most of the 90s), although I never actually met him, as I suspected he might be rather humourless - he sounds like a gent, however. You'll be FINE at the fest. If MInehead is anything like Camber Sands (where they used to hold ATP), it's impossible to get lost, it's a extremely chilled atmosphere, everyone's really friendly (I remember feeling trepidacious about Bowlie in case it was a bit snooty and cooler-than-thou, but I needn't have worried), and there are all-night parties being held in pretty much every third chalet. I'm not even that bothered about most of the bands on the bill to be honest - it's more about having a mad, messy weekend with friends and other like-minded bods.

Hmm. I made the mistake of buying Sister back when it was first released on the recommendation of NME, and it rather put me off them for good (I was into Talulah Gosh and other schmindie stuff at the time), although I love about a dozen of their tracks. Fave elpee is Goo. ATP is probably a very good place to start with fests. You'll have a warm bed, for one thing. I went to the Bowlie thingummy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowlie_Weekender), the precursor to ATP, and that was amazing. My flatmate says that we went to the first ATP as well, although I have no recollection of that..!

I am indeed. I'm only really going for MBV and De La Soul. I know it's it's heresy to say so, but I don't really rate Sonic Youth (gasp!).
