Porcupine Tree is the best band ever. Opeth comes a very very close runner-up. Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape is the best song in the whole wide world. Everything else in the world is of much lesser significance.

I adore most kinds of metal(progressive, doom, melodic), rock(classic, neo, rock and roll), ambient, soundtracks, instrumentals. For me, the simpler the music, the more it influences me. The best example in mainstream music I can give is this one minute intro to the album. I also love complex progressive and intricately structured metal masterpieces - A Change of Seasons.
