Hey I couldn't help but notice the last album you listened to is particularly amazing.

Adam, the guy who runs the site, would be overjoyed to see such positive feedback about the site. It's his little pet project, he's very protective of it, and he puts so much time into it. I just chip in with my animation column and then very occasionally something like the Scott Pilgrim piece. Glad you agree with me on the Scott Pilgrim thing. Adam's argument was that I'm younger than the target audience of Scott Pilgrim, which I find bizarre. I really relate to it. Anyway, I'm currently doing an all nighter packing up my flat ready to move. 2 things have occurred to me: Arcade Fire might just be the best band ever and you need to check out a band called Radical Face. The album Ghost is superb.

I wouldn't say animation is my thing, as I don't know enough about it, I just really like it. I'm learning more and more, so it could well become my thing. Maybe I'll start writing books on it when I'm old and wise. Double Bass is great because if I want to play something like swing jazz, I can, but it can also be used for classical. You just don't get that with a cello or violin.

I'm not professional at all, I just know the guy who runs the site I write for, and so I do a weekly column on animation. If you can at all be arsed, it's http://hopelies.com And I've always thought I'd like to learn strings of some kind. Maybe the double bass.

Yeah, it did look, er, 'fancy schmancy' but it also made me want to learn an instrument. I saw it as part of Edinburgh Film Festival, I'm writing for a website for it.

I actually saw an amazing Australian film today called Mrs Carey's Concert, about a school that every two years has a concert in the Sydney Opera house. The teachers were quite psychotic but it was a good film.

Er, I would attempt to wow you with my film taste, but trying to convince a Luhrmann fan of good taste is somewhat akin to trying to convince an ADD riddled five year old that it's worth reading romantic poetry.

It's not so much a rivalry between Pav and I because I've already won. Everyone knows Pav is always wrong. Always. Just because he likes Moulin Rouge does not mean he has good film taste. And vice versa with me. I'm tasteful. That said, I've only listened to Fever to Tell (?) and wasn't a huge fan. That said, I love the soundtrack to Where the Wild Things Are.

"It depends" would be the obvious and boring answer. Sometimes an intense short trip is more effective than a long one. I think 2-3 days is a good length, though of course not if you're travelling for several months, you'd just get tired of travelling all the time. BTW, "Pattinson was fantastic, as expected", hahahahaha.

The Big Mac Index is a useful shortcut. I mean, if you live in the cheapest available youth hostel, eat in local pubs, etc., you won't end up spending much money anywhere. It's all a question of balancing cash and comfort. Also a question of what you want to do in those cities - visit museums? experience night life? So many options...

Oh no, Pav has overtaken my domination of your shoutbox. Sure enough I did watch Moulin Rouge. It was truly, utterly terrible, a horrifying concoction of bad songs (with a couple of exceptions) sung well, garish visuals and nauseating editing. It's one of the worst films I've seen this year. Does this mean I'm less of a film fan? No, it just means I am tasteful and discerning. Unlike someone else in this conversation. :D I've been to many places in Europe (France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania and others), as well as California and Arizona, Tajikistan, Kenya and South Africa. Want to travel more though. All I'm managing this summer is France, I think. Also, I like a variety of the arts, I study English Lit. But film is my one big thing. I have better taste than Pav.

USA, Morocco, Tanzania, Israel is all I've visited outside of Europe. Actually, I've been to a Caribbean island but it belonged to France :P In Europe, I've been to UK, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Vatican City (:P), Greece, Russia, Norway, Czech Republic, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein (and here's another :P) You are going to Europe next year? Awesome! I'll give you a list of places to visit but you have to tell me what time of year you're going. I've only listened to Boys and Girls in America and thought it was the blandest thing I've ever heard.

Want to hear something funny? I watched Moulin Rouge with an audio description, thinking it was a pompous voiceover. It's fun, anyway, you should know that swords generally has an awful taste in film. I've also been to 4 continents [/back in the loop], but I'm only really well versed in European countries. Definitely want to go down under at some point in my life.

I have seen Moulin Rouge. Well, most of it. It gave me a brain hemorrhage just looking at it. It's such an ugly film. I'm a massive film nerd - I know way more about films than I do about music, about which I am woefully ignorant. I do actually want to go to Australia one day, although I think I'd prefer New Zealand if I was heading over to that part of the hemisphere. It's my aim to visit every continent in the world. I've been to 4 and I'm 21, so that's not too bad. :D

AHA! York is my hometown, so you may sniff at glorious Edinburgh but really you do know an amazing city when you see one. I've never been to Australia. Baz Luhrmann put me off.

Sorry if Edinburgh is just a bit too classy for you weegies. That said, I am one of those poms that have invaded this city. It's probably the least scottish city in Scotland. I love it though. Your other half live in Kent? And you are in Australia? Sheesh, talk about long distance. :D

Yes, I've seen Les Mis live, it was absolutely incredible. Phenomenal show, worth every penny even though it's expensive. I'm actually going to see Arcade Fire live in Edinburgh as well. Can't wait. You should definitely check out the Suburbs, it's amazing.

Ooh, I'm a big (albeit new) fan of Arcade Fire so I fully approve of them being on your list. Not sure I can forgive Paramore though... Still nostalgia is good. I have a friend who introduced me to Belle and Sebastien (best song being of course Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying) and she generally has very good taste in music. She is also a Katy Perry fan, so I guess everyone has their musical weaknesses. I'm a fan of musicals, hence why Les Mis is particularly high on my play count.

Hello Friend of MrCarmady. I was intrigued who you were, thought you might be from the forums that the two of us use. Turns out you aren't (I don't think) but I couldn't help but notice that you are a big Belle and Sebastian fan. Great shout, love em. More than can be said for, ahem, Paramore... :D

Yeah, you were nice to me unlike all of those big meanies :P Also, we talked about watching Troll 2 or something. I have done so since, drunk, and it was awesome xD RT just got buggier and buggier and then loads of great members left, so I don't really bother with it anymore.

hey you should check out Julia and Angus Stone, i think they'd completely match your indie/folksy/acoustical/blues/singer-songwriter beats. My sister just bought their double album Down The Way (and Red Berries) which i could lend to you, but um, yeah, check them out they're completely your thing.
