haha yeah, i'm not that interested in it as a straight pads-instrument, though. maschine can do real nice things as a cut-n-sampler plugged in as a VST to something like ableton. i'd be getting it more for the workflow of software production than as an actual instrument. they do look like so much fun, though.

p.s. i'm seriously getting gear-lust for a native instruments maschine... or some sort of pads to do drum programming and beats with. looks like so much fun! this is the worst time possible to have some creative renaissance though, being a broke postgraduate. i feel like that dude from wayne's world that obsesses over the stratocaster in the shop window...

japan has/had the best techno scene in the world, and asia pretty much has the best clubs when it comes to space + sound systems (as you'd probably expect). so it's not all utopian! most of the techno greats are living out there in some sort of escapist-exile. jeff mills is the big ambassador. & don't big up danish design too much, if my gf ever reads your enthusiasm she'll never stop going on about it. and yeah cords can be replaceable but that was just a common example: the point is that dj headphones get battered. i treat my high-end audio stuff with a gentleness and tenderness approaching reverence, and that's just not the sorta M.O. i have with dj headphones. i guess if you need one pair to do everything though they're not bad. i'd still rather save though, get a £40 pair, then spend the other £100 on an ortofon needle or something! will make much more difference.

my headphones aren't that good! haha. i wouldn't actually spend that amount of money on dj cans. if you take them out and actually dj with them you can probably guarantee the cord or something is going to get fucked - it's just one of those inevitable laws with head/earphones. for listening alone i'm very happy with a high-end pair of IEM monitors i've got. with dj headphones i just want something functional, man, not audio quality. they're meant to be played so loudly anyway that it's pretty obvious every dj headphone is going to drop the high-ends and treble down, or else will face many many lawsuits being dropped on them by irresponsible listeners, haha. & yeah, some record digging sounds good. i keep buying way more records than i should be, considering my financials... i'm already vaguely planning all the cheap vinyl i'm gonna buy abroad, as well, haha. i have this romantic vision laid out of me finding some asian techno micro-niche and getting a whole crate. scooosh!

for listening i'd go for something like the grados sr225 in the £200 range. or something with a balanced-monitor approach rather than big bass, yuck. mind you i've never really seen the appeal in expensive, fancy-designer dj headphones. dj phones are there to get battered. plus £200 is a lot to drop on some dj headphones when you don't even have the ideal turntable/mixer yet! that's like the luxury you treat yourself with after you've got the technics and the xone mixer, haha.

they're high-end dj headphones, worth almost as much as the s2! haha you're nuts. for listening you could get a much better headphone for that price range. dj headphones are terribly balanced and are just designed to kick out loud and pronounced lows/mids. it doesn't surprise me they're flogging the tma's at apple stores. makes sense.

you've never heard of kassem mosse?!? where have you been in the last 2-3 years? definitely check out more. you need to branch out from the pitchfork charts! having that many plays of frank ocean and the weeknd and not having grooved out to kassem mosse is a serious crime.

they actually don't say. no warnings either, which indicates it was a "severe" breach. but they say literally nothing - you have to provide them with a passport scan and everything before they'll even acknowledge your case. it's ridiculous! i have literally no idea what i've done; all i can think of at the moment is that i've spent the vast majority of the last 3-4 years just linking music on there (having a wall-to-wall social life is nauseating) and maybe they've taken exception to that because of copyright infringement, or intellectual property, or whatever. pretty stupid, though... everyone does it! p.s. check your inbox, i sent you the torrent invite.
