    Hmm... I think innocence and a purity of intent, playfulness... a childlike and unpretentious attitude to art also has to play a part in it. Art as a wonderful game open to all. Silliness... but not pointlessness. Almost ridiculous... utterly juvenile, at times... but with a HEART (unlike a lot of truly shitty and just stupid stuff that's out there that's only about self-promotion). Wonder. This term was first coined to describe an event I promoted last year, but Mr Madrid and I are spreading it to the internets...

    It's so riciculous it's almost stupid. However, this is a high compliment from me. It's what i desire most from muzik and art. A balance between subtlty and being over the top. A balance between demented and ridiclous. Early Residents were the pinnacle for this aesthetic.

    Yeah, Butterfy Potion is an ep. But its brilliant. Noisy, but not like GASH, NULL/VOID. More like THAW, but with even more acid and steroids. The title track is really psychedelic (to me anyway), but sounds nothing like the "genre" of psychedelia. I was on a strong dose of acid the first time I heard that ep though (same goes for THAW). in fact, when I mentioned this to Jim one of the few times I have met him, and he said he was probably tripping his head off when he made it. Jim used to do acid all the time in the earlier days. And U can tell with his muzik. Real brutal acid muzik. Its amazing. He never fails to stun me with trax I have know for years. Thats the great thing about true underground Muzik. It just doesnt get boring.

    Not heard the remix albums. Not keen on the idea of others touching his stuff. Yeah, DIRTDISH is patchy, but Prime Gonzola, Someone drowned in my Pool, Motorslug and the Fudge Punch are great. It's a 50% kinda deal. Have you heard the Clint Ruin/Lydia Lunch ep STINKFIST? Great stuff, esp the two Stinkfist trax. Yeah, HOLE is still probably my favourite album, and LOVE is a sign that someone can still be inventive after a 20 year + career, which is comforting (I mean look at how shit the Residents have been since the 80's). THAW is brutal. BUTTERLY POTION is brilliant as well and I really wish an album had folloewd in that vein soon after. But I'm not sure if Jim was very stable at that point.
