Best way to learn Finnish is definitely with friends. In fact, if you would, read the PM I am going to send you. After I click this send button to shout in this box. Yeah. Like now. Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnow.

lol no, not really. I find music the least helpful in learning a language, unfortunately. I just didn't see any on the front page of your charts and though I'd recommend something. Never judge a book by it's cover I guess...there's always more deeper than what's on the surface. Perhaps Kotiteollisuus is your recommendation in return. For that I am grateful, and will check them out :)

Also, that's pretty cool that you're into the Eastern studies. I met someone that was majoring in that at the university here when I was studying some Aikido outdoors. He seemed odd to us though, but he sure did enjoy watching our class. Afterwards I showed him yang form Tai Chi and he went beserk. What an interesting fellow.

Learning the hard way eh? I know another American girl that went to Finland that had to learn by immersion. The key for that is reading everything you can in Finnish first while slowly join conversations. Might I suggest something? Try to start as early as possible. Use IRC, MSN, Skype, whatever you can to talk with any Finnish family and friends that are in Finland. I also recommend Tenhi. Hit me back if you have recommendations of your own! I didn't join this bloody site for nothin'.

The language is...hard to explain. It is my main problem, yet not entirely so. I know only a sufficient amount to live off of, but not to live by. I have researched all I could of foreigners trying to get work in Finland and heard all the horror stories. Mastering the language will surely be the first benefitial step to take, of course, which I have already begun to take. I didn't see any fine print on the Univeristie's site, just a recommendation to know at least some Finnish before attempting to study in FInland for a master's degree. Which is quite simply common sense. Anyways, what field are you looking into that is not offered by the University of Helsinki?

Interesting. If I read correctly, the University of Helsinki does the same, yet I heard horror stories from some foreigners that went there. The main thing holding me back is getting a job. Not an easy task as a foreigner in such an economy. I will have to find out...come May 28th. Dun dun dun.

Sobre mim

I speak English and Japanese. I'm obsessed with heavy metal, but lately I've been trying to be a little more open-minded at least and listen to other styles. I particularly enjoy metal with Finnish lyrics. In August, I will be moving to Finland to start graduate school!
