The way the modern music industry is, as far as i can tell, is that record execs(sweeping generalisation) tell us what kind of music we should like, and then pigeon hole acts to fit into those categories. If you look at the evolution of popular music, never has it been as formulaic as it is now. I mean some of the most popular programs on tv (fuck knows why) are about creating a pop act to a formula. I guess its because a lot of people are just in it for the cash money money. In all walks of life there is an emphasis on the green (cash not bud). Its pretty fucked, but as long as people like us are still listening to real music, its all good.

Yeah nobody beats the humble magnificent. I've had the pleasure of seeing him live twice. Both times were incredible. The first was the best gig i think i've ever been too, maybe apart from daft punk, but that's a whole different kettle of fish. The first gig, insight was there too, and in the second half they cleared a space in the middle of the crowd and just rapped in the circle. I was standing right in the front row and he came over and put his arm round my shoulders and rapped the rest of his verse right in my fuckin ear! Real hip hop man. I haven't washed that ear since... You been to any good gigs recently?

It's a bit mainstream i think. Not like he's selling out, but he's made his music a lot more accessible. Funnily enough i've recently been getting really into El-P too. I had fantastic damage for ages, but didn't really listen to it properly, then i heard I'll sleep when your dead and it blew me away, so i went back and checked out fantastic damage and it did the same. Funny thing about El-P is he seems to have produced some of my favourite music of all time by other artists, Lif, Cannibal Ox, Company Flow etc etc... I rate him as a producer right up there with Primo, Pete Rock, Dilla. He's the fuckin man basically.
