• and when she walks, she walks with passion

    Nov 2 2006, 4h52

Okay, googoobox20 made up this survey a long time ago, using your top ten played songs. Since I've already done that, and most of them haven't really changed, I'm gonna skip and take number 1, 10, 20, etc. from my top 50, and write about them, 'cause I feel like talking about songs.

#1. Why did this song get played more than any other?
    Buttons (93 plays)

I love it. Like, I'm seriously fucking addicted like a drug addict to "Buttons". I also love that the song came out early in the summer, and I heard it in Sirius radio once and downloaded it, and loved it straight from the beginning, and then everyone else was like "OMG THAT SONG IS SO BAD" and then everyone started loving it. It's like the equivalant of those asshole indie fuckers who think they're better than you because they know some shitty band and you don't, but with pop music! This song got played more than anything else because I fucking LOVE middle eastern modal scales, and I love middle eastern sounding songs. The beat, the everything. It's a pretty simple progression, and it's all rhythm-driven, considering the singing is pretty minimal, but god, I just love it. You don't question it when something just gets your ass out of the chair to move.

#10. Do you have any memories with this song?
    Slow Down Baby *(47 plays)

I remember sitting down outside, ignoring my family and friends to listen to this entire album from start to finish, and this song stood out as one of the tracks I immediately loved. I remember staring down at the park and the city skyline, and yelling at my mom to buy me batteries so I could listen to it on my CD player, then my CD player broke, so I listened to it on my computer. (Also, I'm gonna talk about the songs themselves, because I feel like talking about music). I love how the one line, where she sings "you've got some nerve to think that I would give up everything", she hits these high notes/heights of phrases in a belt voice, but it's so flawless. When I first listened to this song, I rewound that a million times. Her voice can just be, man, fucking FLAWLESS. Plus, this song just generally has a chord progression that I love, and I love how the horns back it up, and how the beat stops and starts. I'ma listen to it now! "STOP - slow down, baby!" SO hot.

#20. When did you first hear this song?
    Good News (39 plays)

It had to have been after Chris burned me all the Something Corporate CD's, or after Oliver re-sent them to me at school. Honestly, the only reason this song got so many plays was that it's right after "Straw Dog", and I played that song a whole bunch. (I think it's like number 3 or 4 on my list).

#30 What is your favorite part of this song?
    Hide And Seek (36 plays)

The texture of the entire song. The vocoder, the complete un-realness of it, Imogen's voice on every part, the fact that it sounds like no other song I've ever heard. Seriously, there are so many amazing little musical nuances in this song, that I'll just go with the general texture/arrangement.

#40. What does this song represent to you?
    Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex
Lover I Don't Have to Love
    In Your Eyes (30 plays)

I have three songs, so I'll just write something short on each, as they are very different songs. Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex represents my love/passion for finding shitty overseas pop singers. Lover I Don't Have To Love represents the only Bright Eyes that will ever make it onto my computer, and In Your Eyes represents all the hot dance music I love by Kylie Minogue.

#50 What is your favorite line in the song?
    Tainted Love (27 plays)

(I should also say that I had this mislabeled for a while, so the 50th track is Pussycat Dolls - Tainted Love, with 27 plays, and my 44th most played track is The Pussycat Dolls - Tainted Love, with 29 plays. I suck at life). Uhm, well it's a cover song, but that doesn't change the lyrics in this case. I like "and you think love is to pray, but I'm sorry, I don't pray that way." I also like how the voice busts out from "take my tears, and that's not nearly all" to "don't touch me please, I cannot stand the way you tease."

    Set 26 2006, 14h17

Well, it's been one year today that I signed up for last.fm, and now have nearly 11,000 songs listed under my belt. Now seems like a good time to reflect!

When I signed up for this, I didn't know what to expect, and had no idea where I thought my charts were going to go. I had no idea "Unwritten" and "Buttons" were going to be my top songs.

I did expect Christina Aguilera to be one of my top played, especially after the majesty of Back to Basics was released.

(My 10,000th song played was Makes Me Wanna Pray).

But when I got into artists like Something Corporate, Kylie Minogue, and Madonna (especially via Confessions on a Dance Floor, I really got into them, making them top players.

It's interesting to see the random single tracks by random artists that got a lot of play. Like Black horse and a cherry tree, which is fun as hell to sing (thank you, American Idol), so that's up there, though I think I'm going to end up getting the whole album. Other random ones that stand out are Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part to Save the Scene and Stop Going to Shows) and Lover I Don't Have to Love, considering my taste in music (aka shitty pop). The first one is like the only song I listen to off of that album, it's got a chord progression I like. As for the Bright Eyes one . . . it's pretty wrist-slitty, but it's one of the better of them.

As of recently, my friend turned me on to Girl Talk. I got a copy of Night Ripper, and I can't even say how awesome it is. A whole album of SERIOUSLY well down mash-ups? I constantly check Wikipedia to see which new songs people can pick out and have put up.

And, I don't know why, but I really like Pedestal, which is embarassing, because it's Fergie, and because London Bridge sucks so bad. Whatever. I like it.

Thaaaaaaat's about it. I think I'll be listening to more music on my computer when I get the plug for my speakers sent, which I left at home.

    Jul 11 2006, 20h56

I got this through somebody's journal, who linked an artist. They linked all the artists they have, but I fucking hate it when people link to artists and don't actually have anything to say about them.

Anyfuck, you check off how many of these artists are represented on your computer library. I have 1610 songs on my computer (like 3300 on my iPod, but I'm not doing that). I'm not gonna link them, 'cause that's lame. It's cool to see what artists are listed under what categories, and how many categories there are.

  • i'ma do my thing while you're playing with your [beep]

    Jun 7 2006, 1h50

I hate myself. I really do. Because I love The Pussycat Dolls. I can't help it. I just got PCD and I love it. I seriously love it. I can't stop listening to it. Why? WHY?!?!?!?!

I also just got A Little More Personal (RAW), and while I haven't listened to it enough to fully absorb, I think I'll moderately like it. She's clearly taking herself more seriously than she is from Speak, and that's unfortunate, 'cause unabashed pop from someone who really has no business recording an album that doesn't take itself seriously is just perfect. But, whatever.

I'm really not looking forward to when the tracks start updating again, 'cause I'm afraid Buttons is gonna end up being my top played track, and that's just embarrassing. More embarrassing than the theme song to The Hills.
  • i wonder if i'm just too much for you wonder if a kiss will make you just wonder

    Mai 31 2006, 18h05

This survey was made up a while ago by googoobox20, and was supposed to be your top 10 played songs on iTunes or whatever music player you use. I'm going to do this here, using my top 10 played songs on last.fm.

#1. Why did this song get played more than any other?
    Unwritten (71 times)

I remember a music survey from years ago, and one of the questions was "what songs sound like being happy to you?" or something to that extent, and that's what this song reminds me of, because it sounds like being happy. This song just puts me into a good mood, because it's upbeat and somewhat simple. The message is simple but paired with the music makes a nice impact.

#2. Do you have any memories with this song?
    Red Blooded Woman (64 times)

The image I have in my head of this song is sitting in the gross ass room I was renting in Chino Hills and talking to Tommy at like 2 am Pacific time about how Kylie's overseas singles are all better than the American releases. That or the music room of Mt. San Antonio where I first heard it. I've listened to this song so many times in so many places that I can't even prescribe just one memory to it, but the above ones are the closest.

#3. When did you first hear this song?
Tymps (The Sick in the Head Song) (63 times)

Uhm, I first heard this song when I bought the album. Pretty simple. It should've been earlier, since I had the unreleased, Jon Brion version of Extraordinary Machine before I bought the Mike Elizondo actual release, but I listened to it afterwards and good god is this song better the second time/version.

#4. What is your favorite part of this song?
    Stupid Girls (63 times)

Uhm, everything. I love P!nk for doing this song, because as much as the video can overshadow it by blatantly making fun of dumbass celebrities, there is a serious problem with women today having completely whacked priorities concerning image, and even worse, not challenging themselves to stand up against gender roles and become something more than the little that's expected of us. So, I'd have to go with "What happened to the dream of a girl president? She's dancing in the video next to 50 Cent."

#5. What does this song represent to you?
    L.O.V.E. (59 times)

Uhm, my undying love for the shitty music put out by Ashlee Simpson.

#6. What is your favorite line in the song?
    Straw Dog (55 times)

Oh geez, I don't know. The lyrics are pretty emo taken out of context. I like "the closer I get to feeling, the further that I'm feeling from alright, the more I step into the sun, the more I step out of the light." The thing is is that this song doesn't sound very emo, so, whatever.

#7. Does this song remind you of anyone in particular?
    Freak Like Me (51 times)

Before I even looked at the song, I thought "all of my top music is shitty pop songs, so clearly it's gonna remind me of Josh" but this one isn't, this one actually reminds me of my sister because I've gotten most of my mashups from her, and she already had this one by Soulwax, before it was done by the Sugababes. BTW, I hate how this song is labeled, with only the first word being capitalized. Ugh.

#8. If this song was a color, what would it be?
    Cruise Control (41 times)

Good god, I didn't even know I'd listened to this song that many times. It would be black with white spots, 'cause I imagine this song while driving down a highway at night, with the highway lights being the white spots.

#9. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear this song?
    This L.O.V.E. (40 times)

That I must be pretty egotistical to listen to my own "song" enough to get up on my top ten listened songs. Seriously, it makes me think of how I ignored school work to finish this, even though it wasn't for any reason besides the fact that I wanted to do it.

#10. How does this song make you feel?
    Chocolate (38 times)

Like the biggest gay man alive for having all this Kylie Minogue.

Aaaaand, in the spirit of not doing anything and tooling around the internet and still doing nothing, new journal entry!

I'm in the middle of a big dance/club kick again, which was spurred by the acquisition of Confessions on a Dance Floor. This album is FREAKING. AWESOME. Number one, the fact that all the songs flow together is just awesome. We'd been talking in my music industry class about how it's become a "singles" world, and there's no sense of a full album anymore. This totally changes it. While there are many songs I love individually, you can't not start at the beginning and just go. It's fabulous. I can't even list all of my favorites, 'cause it's pretty much the entire album.
Two notes: People need to stop dwelling on how dumb the lyrics/rhymes to I Love New York are. Duh. Thank you, Captain Obvious. I read a review which said the simple, dumb lyrics were reminscent of old Madge sass. I totally agree. And, considering she got started as a dancer in New York, why wouldn't she have a song simply/solely for the dance clubs in the city? The beat's awesome. I <3 it. Also, something about the lyrics, or maybe just the general melody/musical underlay of Jump also reminds me of old Madonna. Definitely awesome.

Another album I have acquired: Light Years. I had not previously heard the famous Your Disco Needs You, and now I love it. What a deliciously campy, fun song. Can't beat Kylie yelling in French. I'm going to need to delve into the entire album, once I'm done with Madonna on repeat.

Before I got Confessions I was starting to listen to Love.Angel.Music.Baby by Gwen Stefani. There's some good stuff there, but again, I'll have to delve in more once I'm done with Madonna. Favorite track so far definitely has to be Bubble Pop Electric.

    Yep. Usual suggestions always welcome.

Unless it's Josh telling me not to listen to the Sugababes. Shut up. AALIYAH.

The more that you wait, the more time that you waste.

I took this from Josh, 'cause it's fun. Something like this circulated on livejournal a while back. Glad it's up here now.

Put your media player on random and select a lyric from each of the first 30 songs that come up, then allow everyone to guess the song and cross a song off your list once it has been guessed correctly. (Using a search engine is CHEATING!)

I just realized I've been in Boston for a month, from today. It's funny, 'cause my tracks played list has shot up since I came here, since now that I have actual speakers for my computer, I can play music and move around the room.

Also, my iPod died again. I'm now on my third one, and fucking pissed off. I'd gotten an even bigger collection of music on my second ipod, and now I'm back to square one. I didn't even bring my CD's here, so I can't put them on the new one until I go home for spring break. Meh.

    Anyway, music.

In a complete turnaround from my last journal, and last downloading spree, while putting music back on my ipod, I discovered the love I have for Something Corporate. I've honestly listened to Leaving Through the Window like 10 times already, on the computer and walking around/doing work. I think it's phenomenal, and my favorite songs off of it so far are Cavanaugh Park, Straw Dog, and Hurricane, but I honestly love all of them. I also have North, but has yet to compare to Leaving Through The Window.

And since Chris burnt me the demo (I think they're demos?) CD's, my favorite song of them, from Ready . . . Break, is When It Goes Down. I fell in love with that song the first time I listened to the CD during the summer, and . . . yeah. It's just so beautiful.

I downloaded Jack's Mannequin last night, but have yet to really delve into the album, but from what I hear I like it. It's lighter, and very SoCal, and enjoyable.

Also, last week, I really got into the three Straylight Run songs that Josh sent me. I'm gonna be getting me that album soon, once I get some money.

If anyone's up for any new music suggestions, I'm totally open for it, as always.

New year! New school, and now I have speakers set up for my computer so I don't have to be sitting at my computer with headphones on to listen to music. Now I'll be able to listen to music a lot more.

I downloaded almost all of the Sugababes albums, and I love them. The last one I downloaded was Taller in More Ways, and the variety of styles on the songs are awesome. I'm addicted to Red Dress, I love how the strings pick up the track in the chorus.

I also downloaded Body Language, and it's a phenomenal album. Really well done dance/pop beats.

I'm tempted to buy/download the Natasha Bedingfield album. I guilty pleasure liked These Words, but Unwritten is an awesome, awesome song, and I've been listening to it on repeat since I downloaded it. I also downloaded Wild Horses, thinking it was the Rolling Stones cover, but it's not and is also a good song.

Also an amazing song by a credible artist with more talent than one could imagine: A Toast To Men (Fuck The Men) (feat. Lady May). Eloquent lyrics with an innovative, in no way repetitive beat.

Also, walking around the city, I've been listening to Dirty Water and Tessie a whole bunch, naturally. Good songs.

Yep. That's about it. Any suggestions from anybody ( that's not Josh, hahaha) are always welcome.
