  • Intoxication/Enivrez-vous

    Set 12 2009, 13h11

by Charles Baudelaire, translated by Guy Thorne

To be drunken for ever: that is the only thing which matters! If you would escape Time's bruises and his heavy burdens which weigh you to the earth, you must be drunken.

But how? With the fruit of the wine, with poetry, with virtue, with what you will. But be drunken. And if, sometime, at the gates of a palace, on the green banks of a river, or in the shadowed loneliness of your own room, you should awake and find intoxication lessened or passed away, ask of the wind, of the wave, of the star, of the bird, of the timepiece; ask all that flies, all that sighs, all that revolves, all that sings, all that speaks — ask of these the hour. And the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, and the timepiece will answer you: "It is the hour to be drunken! Lest you be martyred slaves of Time, intoxicate yourselves, be drunken without cease! With wine, with poetry, with virtue, or with what you will."
    -------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday afternoon…chillin’, listening to some Nesta…picked up the cd cover and was shocked to realise that I wasn’t sure about almost half the flags!!! So! I decided to look them up and felt like sharing.

Kenya – East Africa !!! My motherland, naturally it’s the first flag. Lol

    Angola – South/Central Africa

Coast (Cote d’Ivoire) – West Africa The flag is orange and not red as printed on the album cover.

Ethiopia!!! – East Africa though the flag has since

    Chad – Central Africa

    Egypt – North Africa

Ghana – West Africa. Currently celebration 50 years of independence, the longest in Africa! Big up Ghana!

    Senegal – West Africa

    Sierra Leone – West Africa

Cameroon – West Africa. This flag has also changed since.

    Tunisia – North Africa

Niger – West Africa… The poorest country in Africa, also riiiiight next door to Nigeria.

Nigeria – West Africa…oil and all it’s drama.

    Guinea – West Africa

Gambia – West Africa… I’m yet to met someone from there.

Somalia – East Africa…divide and conquer can have brutal effects.

Former flag of Burkina Faso – West Africa (used to be known as Upper Volta)

The Democratic Republic of Congo, formally known as Zaire – Central Africa. With the name change also came a new flag.

    Guinea Bissau – West Africa

    Liberia – West Africa

Swaziland – South Africa. Has the world’s highest rate of HIV infection and the lowest life expectancy (32 years)… I think the topless Reed Dances etc have a large role to play in this. It’s also a very tiny country.

    Madagascar Island – East Africa

    Togo – West Africa

Mozambique – Southeastern Africa. Baobab trees that grow on the beach. They also have a new flag.

Central African Republic – Central Africa

The People’s Republic of Congo – Central Africa. Now know as The Republic of Congo aka Congo

    Tanzania – East Africa

Burundi – East Africa’s smallest nation

ZANU – Zimbabwe African National Union

Mauritius – Southeast African coast, just behind Madagascar

    Mauritania – West Africa
