Purchased on my recent trip to Japan:
unbeltipo - Joujoushka
Second album for 今堀恒雄's solo project. Has been available since 2004 but unfortunately only on an indies label, so it has been impossible for me to import it at a reasonable price. Was the number one item on my CD shopping list for the trip.
ザバダック - 創世記 ザ·ベスト·オブ·ザバダック +2
ザバダック - 風を継ぐ者 Original Soundtrack
Japanese band for which 上野洋子 used to be a vocalist. I was hoping to find "DECADE", their other compilation album, but alas no luck. So I picked up this rerelease of an older compilation and a more recent Caramelbox theatre group soundtrack.
I'm not a big fan of mainstream Japanese music, but I occasionally run into some artists that intrigue me. Got the former because I have one of Mr.Children's older albums, and the latter because I was curious.
riddim saunter - CURRENT
Japanese indie band's debut. Got this by total fluke. I heard some of their songs playing while browsing in a Tower Records and the music left such a strong impression that I went to ask at the info booth who they had just played. I can't tell what they're singing (apparently it's English) but love the funky beats and blaring brass.
Another CD that wasn't on my list. Didn't know of it until I saw the album in a store but Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto recently released her first solo album. And from a Japanese label too, Victor Entertainment to be exact. Great, more Victor CDs for my collection.
Also seen but not purchased, a whole pile of L'arc~en~ciel albums (first print too!) for cheap in a used CD store, but I had already exceeded my CD budget by then. I was kicking myself since I've been trying to complete my collection for ages. Oh well, next time.
