Mix of the Month - March 2011

Mar 26 2011, 14h59

Well hey, it's March for another week or so. How about that?

My fears that 2011 would not be as good for music as 2010 have been assuaged with the glut of good stuff that's come my way so far this year, and the news of more to come. It just never ends! Frankly I have a hard time keeping up with music anymore, but at least it's an enjoyable kind of overwhelmed feeling as opposed to the usual school and work-type ones. This month saw new releases from Low and Wye Oak, hints of things to come from TV on the Radio and Fleet Foxes, not to mention an incredibly late new album from Rival Schools. I was worried it would be terrible, as most "comeback" records are, but it's pretty good so far. FOUND is an enjoyable new Scottish indie/electronic/generally odd outfit I discovered this month, and although the new Noah & The Whale album is underwhelming as a whole the song I've included is a voracious earworm like few I've encountered this year.

1. Low - Try to Sleep
2. Noah & The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.
3. Katie Costello - Cassette Tape
4. Electric Owls - Magic Show
5. Erland & The Carnival - I'm Not Really Here
6. Timber Timbre - Creep On Creepin' On
7. Trent Dabbs - Neil Young
8. Rival Schools - 69 Guns
9. Wye Oak - Dog Eyes
10. TV on the Radio - Will Do
11. Found - Machine Age Dancing
12. Steve Mason - Am I Just a Man
13. The Leisure Society - Save It for Someone Who Cares
14. Adam Haworth Stephens - The Cities That You've Burned
15. The Sand Band - the secret chord
16. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
