Haha yeah, that was so cool of him. What a badass. Ya man, you should come down to Sydney sometime! Maybe in the mid-year break or something. I can show you... err... lovely Marrickville, where I live, with its picturesque concrete roads and flocks of pigeons! 'tis a sight not to be missed. Apart from that I know a handful of nice, cosy bars which are especially nice in winter! and there are parks and roads and beaches and other nice things to walk on. It's quite a large place, really.

Haha, I didn't catch that performance, actually. Trent gets so angry about a lot of things, I love him <3 Ahuh, Bobby Darin fits right in with them :) there's this great digital radio station that plays music from that genre non-stop called Stardust radio: I listen to it when I feel like being whisked back to the fifties :P I enjoyed Art vs. Science's first album. I haven't listened to the latest one, though I'm planning to! I was gonna go see them a few weeks ago but it sold out :( I've heard a bit of Mogwai, they're pretty chill. I'll have to check out Maserati, I haven't heard of them! Oh yeah, I've got this friend who makes music and it's really quite good: I did some album art for him last year. Cenotaphs is really good, I just listened to it tonight. How often do you come down to Sydney?

This is gonna be hard, you've got more than twice as many artists as me in your library :P I will endeavour to find something you haven't heard! Kaizer's Orchestra are pretty rad, they're a Norwegian art-rock band. Some of their stuff is really catchy and it has a bit of a cold-war feel, which is cool. Beirut have some lovely songs with a heavy Baltic-folk influence, if you want something lighthearted. Queens of the Stone Age are awesome if you like alt rock - check out 'Songs For The Deaf', it's great. If you're looking for something old-fashioned and innocent, Bobby Darin's got a real nice voice. Art Vs. Science are pretty great, too. Have you listened to much post-rock? I used to be into it big time. My favourite bands are Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut and Sleepmakeswaves. Good music to listen to on long train trips :)

...that's a lot of recommendations! Thank you, though, it would be nice to get into some new genres. Apart from anything else my super eclectic score would go up which would give me more rep :P

Sweet! I've watched a few episodes so far, it's pretty awesome! I'm lovin' the nostalgic-nineties anime feel it has about it :P and the jazz music in the fight scenes is neat heheheh. gonna have a nice quiet evening with my cup of tea, some anime and some good tunes, I think c: do you have any particular music recommendations? I'm always on the lookout for new stuff...

I will add them to my ever-expanding to-watch list! Yeah, Hanasaku Iroha is awesome. I wasn't expecting it to have this many feels :P and Ohana is adorable! Have you seen Cowboy Beebop? I've heard it's a must-see - everyone keeps telling me to watch it.

It took me a while to get into old prog because a lot of it is musically complex, what with all of the jazz and such, so you need to listen several times to properly appreciate a lot of it. Modern prog, or at least what I've heard of it, is much more accessible. I'm a huge Porcupine Tree fan. It's really hard to recommend a single song because their discography is so diverse. My favourite album of theirs is probably In Absentia (ironically one of their least proggy :P). As for anime, at the moment I'm watching Hanasaku Iroha. It's very good! I've heard of Nichijou, perhaps I will watch it next... I haven't actually watched that many series from start to finish, but I enjoyed Samurai Champloo in all of its nonsensical fun. Do you have any recommendations?

Yeah man, those arpeggios are whack! The mixing on Alive 2007 is so good, eh? Discovery is one of those albums I can listen to again and again. Random aside: thanks to a shoutbox comment some user made on the Crescendolls track page, every time I listen to it I imagine someone falling down a set of stairs. Endless hilarity ensues. I haven't actually listened to Homework and Human After All that much, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the latter. Robot Rock is just too awesome. Waah! So much music to listen to, so little time ;__; I'm just coming out of a month-long '70s prog-rock bender, I've got to get jiggy with some more modern stuff :P Come to mention it, I'm trying to get back into anime myself at the moment! I forgot how good some of it is.

RAM was actually my first proper Daft Punk experience. I especially like Instant Crush, Giorgio Moroder plus all of those tracks you mentioned, haha :) A reviewer on Sputnik Music said that it felt too refined and manufactured for his liking, which I kind of agree with, although I still think it's a great album. That said, it's really the only music of that genre that I listen to so I don't have much to compare it to. I think Discovery is much better - I've seen Interstella 5555 but it was a long time ago. I need to watch it again to get my early 2000s anime fix! Oh, and Alive 2007 is awesome. Do you have a favourite of theirs?

I have, but not properly! I've heard others say the same thing... maybe it's time to give it a whirl :) Time for a new band-centred discussion: what did you think of Daft Punk's latest release?

I've heard it's about environmental collapse, and yeah, the tracks seem to make a lot of sense when you think about them through that lens. It's amazing what you can convey without lyrics. All of the mystery around them is so cool, it really adds something to the music IMO. And yeah, listening to Orange Hexagon Sun right now :) I assume you've heard the A Few Old Tunes volumes? There's some weeeeeiird shit on those, but also some great tracks. Statue Of Liberty is one of my BoC favourites. And Dave (I'm a real traditionalist)! Love that song.

You're right, it does feel very... 'morning-y' for whatever reason. That's pretty cool :) Yeah, I love it. I'd say it's my favourite BoC release, actually. It feels more coherent to me than some of their other albums. I think 'New Seeds' is my favourite track. I prefer MHTRTC - I adore Turquoise Hexagon Sun and roygbiv. Some of the tracks on Geogaddi are just... disturbing. Good, but disturbing. The Devil Is In The Details, for instance. And those samples of children talking as if they're possessed. Freaky shit, yo

It was! I need to go back and listen to it. When NIN played in Sydney, Trent's wife came along and played a couple of HTDA songs on the second night. I went on the first so I missed them :''''( I notice that you're a Boards of Canada fan! What did you think of Tomorrow's Harvest?

I agree, I love the synth work on Pretty Hate Machine, also in Broken. Have you listened to Burn? It's a B-side from The Downward Spiral, I think. There are some awesome industrial-y sounding effects in that track. Did you happen to catch them when they came here last month? I did, it was excellent :) HTDA are pretty awesome, yeah. I really like that EP they came out with last year (especially 'Ice Age', that song is dope yo), but I haven't listened to the album yet.

Why thank you! Yours is swell-as-well :) Don't make me choose ;__; I think of the studio albums, the best is The Downward Spiral, but my favourite would be With Teeth. I'd say The Fragile, but it's too long IMHO, haha. Of all of his releases, I'd definitely pick Still. What's yours?

josef, if you're going to listen to janet jackson, please make sure it's 'rhythm nation 1814': a concept album about civil war dancers who pop and lock it in the factories of oppression to beat social inequality and injustice
