missing in today's indie rock

Pitchfork's Grayson Currin today about a live record of Superchunk from '93 "[it] finds the band endearingly devoid of bullshit and devoted to writing songs powered by things often, oddly missing from today's indie rock: energy and volume."
Seems even pitchfork begins to get it finally ... what's too often missing is kick-ass. Indie nowadays sounds like an unfortunate effort to impress your girlfriend's (boyfriend's) parents. They'll like it, yes, but secretly they'll think that the led zep' guys played their instruments way better.
