The Elbow show at Park West was amazingly good. I dont say this lightly - it was a great mix of tracks, mostly from the last album with a few important tracks from previous releases sprinkled throughout. Including Grace Under Pressure and Newborn.
The show opened, as does the latest album, The Seldom Child with the track Starlings. "Grace Under Pressure" and The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver were high points for me without a doubt.
I does not even make sense to talk about a high point beacause the whole show was truly amazing.
Here is what made it even more amazing. I would put this performance up there with much more popular bands like Radiohead and Coldplay (truthfully they are closer to a Coldplay than a Radiohead), and while both of those bands deservedly sell out arenas, they were still selling tickets at the door 2 hours before the show. We had a table, a server, a great view, and amazing sound in what is more of a nice theater than a 'club'.
So what gives? Everyone I went with was blown-away. The Elbow tour of the US is small, the venues are small… they are not selling out the shows?
I just hope i get to see them a few more times before the rest of the planet realizes their mistake and they start playing the Aragon Ballroom.
