Anaal Nathrakh @ Dürer, Budapest

Wed 25 May – Anaal Nathrakh
//////////////////////////////////////////////////// Magyar \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

==================
Mondjuk a jelek nem feltetlen erre utaltak: amikor a CD Pinceben jegyet vettem, akkor korulbelul negyszer kellett elmondanom a zenekar nevet, aztan inkabb megmutattam nekik a listajukon.

==================
Szoval felve hallgattam az In the Constellation of the Black Widow "nyitotemajat", azaz a zajokat a lemez elejerol.
Drug-Fucking Abomination
Submission Is for the Weak
Volenti Non Fit Iniuria
Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen
Paragon Pariah
The Final Absolution
Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes
The Lucifer Effect
Do Not Speak
Pandemonic Hyperblast
More of Fire Than Blood
Yay. :D Egyebkent tenyleg latszott a sracokon, hogy elvezik a koncertet - amit annak a szamlajara tudok elsosorban irni, hogy a Durer lehetoseget ad ezekre a kozvetlen klubbulikra, es tenyleg, a szinpadon Hunttal egyutt eneklo srac, az Angela Gossowhoz hasonliott lany, a Do Not Speak korai kovetelese, meg a tobbi hasonlo aprosag kozvetlenne, emberkozelive tette ezt az egeszet. A Do Not Speak elott vegul Hunt bejelentette, hogy a raadas fogalmat nem kulonosebben szeretik, szoval o most elvben azt hazudja, hogy mar csak ket dal van hatra, aztan levonulnak, mi visszatapsoljuk oket, es eljatszanak meg egy dalt - de a gyakorlatban inkabb eljatszanak meg harom dalt, de utana mar nem jonnek vissza. Hat igy vagtunk bele a Do Not Speak-be, aminek soran Morhguel vegul csak berangatott a mosh pit legmelyebb bugyraiba…
Valaki sikeresen dokumentalta ezt a dalt, ezuton is koszonet neki:
http://youtu.be/FBdVgO-_nM8
A dal utan Hunt a szinpadra rangatta a kozonseg elol allo tagjait, koztunk jomagamat es Morhguelt is, majd lement a kiurult mosh pitbe, onnan konferalta fel a Pandemonic Hyperblastot, es intett, hogy mehetunk. :P Szoval a mosh pit masodik koreben sikerult Hunttal is utkoznom odabent. Hunt ezek utan felmaszott a tartalek mikrofonhoz, es azzal fejezte be a koncertet. Mokas volt.

==================
Amint vege lett a koncertnek (23:20-23:30 kozott) eroteljes lendulettel lottem ki a Keleti fele, es epphogy elertem a hatvani vonatot - aztan ejjel meg a java beadandot is megirtam. :D
Jo volt a koncert, na.

==================
Anaal Nathrakh is one of the bands I have loved for quite a while. It is also a band that I never thought I’ll live to see in Hungary. Seems like I was mistaken – and we are getting closer to Europe by the day… ;P In retrospect, it seems like I was simply naïve: the band was a solid choice to book, for it gathers people from a number of different styles; grinders, blackers, hipsters, hell-knows-who-else were expected to attend, as AN may interest them all. There were quite a lot of people, representing quite a diversity style-wise, and the attendance numbers were much better than the Nadja gig’s. However, the signs were not foreshadowing this at all. When I was trying to get my ticket in CD Pince (a local record store in Budapest, which mainly deals in metal records), I had to repeat the name of the band like four times, and finally I just pointed at it on their list. They gave me a ticket, while wondering whether it really is a ticket or just some fancy flyer – meanwhile I was wondering whether they have ever sold a single ticket to this gig before I arrived.
The date of the gig was unfortunate for me, as usually. I’ve moved out of the room I’d been renting for quite a while just a few days before the gig, so I had to travel to Budapest for the gig – what’s worse, I had to get back to Hatvan after the show. (As a matter of fact, I should have been writing my Java hand-in instead of attending to the event, but come on…) As I was not interested in the support bands, I tried to arrive at around ten, when Anaal Nathrakh was to start playing. Thanks to some other obligations and the rather messy night traffic, I arrived quarter an hour late. As I entered the venue, I felt a sigh of relief as people were standing all around the place, so apparently I didn’t miss anything by then. I met Morhguel a bit later, who told me that the bands were re-scheduled, so I’m totally in time.
Because of all the aforementioned reasons, I can’t comment on the support bands, so let’s get to the point already.

==================
At around quarter to eleven I stared to get anxious: the delay of the programme didn’t bother me at all before that, but I had my train ticket back home, my last train was leaving at 23:50, and, let’s face it, I’m getting too old to spend the night at Budapest without some sort of accommodation. :D (And I didn’t even mention that I still had a Java hand-in that I had to finish during the night…)
Fortunately the delay wasn’t much longer than that, and a few minutes later Anaal Nathrakh appeared on stage. Their new record, Passiondidn’t become one of my favourites. I can’t deny it has its moments, but for some reason I feel it weak compared to the previous two albums. The setlists I’ve checked out weren’t too promising either, for the band tends to skip all my favourite songs when playing live. So I was sort of agitated while listening to the "opening" of In the Constellation of the Black Widow – that is, the noises from the first few seconds of the record. However, the lead-up to Drug-Fucking Abomination washed all my doubts away: the guys played with passion (yeah, lame pun, I know), precisely, the sound was enjoyable, so the band (along with the guest musicians) presented their music as a well-oiled machine. The mosh pit was quick to warm up, and while it was not too big (it was always the same four or five people flying out of it into my direction), it was quite intensive. I tried to stay at the edge of the chaos - as I came to the gig to listen to music, not to let off some steam - while I intended to stay relatively close to the stage, to be able to see something, so I stood at the left side of the mosh pit, and whoever came my direction from the pit, I just sent them back without much enthusiasm.
The order of the tacks might not be right, but the setlist was something like this:
Drug-Fucking Abomination
Submission Is for the Weak
Volenti Non Fit Iniuria
Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen
Paragon Pariah
The Final Absolution
Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes
The Lucifer Effect
Do Not Speak
Pandemonic Hyperblast
More of Fire Than Blood
Some of the tracks got some commentary, so Lucifer Effect turned out to be about the evil that is present in all of us, and about the spark needed to ignite it all and turn normal, ordinary people to psychopaths. Right before Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes we were presented with the usual stuff about war being the natural state of man; and somewhere mid-gig a song was dedicated to the humongous stone-tits hanging from the walls; Hunt even praised Soproni, a local beer. The band commented on liking the mosh pit, liking Budapest, and about how much they’ve enjoyed the day they had spent here, so they promised that they’ll try to return to us whenever possible. Yay. :D Well, the guys really seemed to enjoy the gig - I think it can be attributed to the atmosphere of Durer: the place makes intimate club gigs possible, and, well, the guy singing along with Hunttal on stage, the girl, who got compared to Angela Gossow, the early demands for Do Not Speak, and all the other small nuances made the whole gig more humane, I guess. Finally, before Do Not Speak, Hunt announced that they do not really like to pretend to end a gig, go off-stage, then return and play some more, so in theory, he should be lying that they have but two songs left, and after playing those, they are done, but after some applaud, they were to return to play one more song; while in practice, they will skip the boring part, and play the three songs without any further ado - but we shan’t expect them to come back to stage after those three songs. So did they begin playing Do Not Speak, during what Morhguel managed to get me into the deepest chasms of the mosh pit…
Somebody managed to record this song for the generations to come :), so thanks to whoever made the video:
http://youtu.be/FBdVgO-_nM8
After the song, Hunt invited the people near the stage (including Morhguel and myself) to get onto the stage, he cleared the mosh pit, stood to the middle of it, announced Pandemonic Hyperblast, and signed us to return to the mosh pit. :P So, in the second round I’ve spent in there, I managed to clash into Hunt. :D The cord of the microphone was of course a bit in the way of the masses moving in the pit, though it was but a temporary annoyance, as the cord was torn in a few minutes. Hunt had to climb up to the reserve microphone to finish the gig with that one.

==================
As soon as the gig ended (sometime around 23:20-23:30) I sprinted towards the railway station, and succeeded in catching my train - and what’s more, I even managed to finish my Java hand-in during the night. :D
Oh, yeah, the gig was fine.
