I rarely post much on anything, but I'm bored and this looked like a cool quiz. Actually, music is the only thing that has been a stalwart part of my existence since I can remember. With that said, my answers to this quiz might will meander into tangential territory. Anyone who knows me knows that when I get around to doing something like writing crap down, I don't see the point in fucking around. You have been warned. :D Funny thing is, I doubt anyone (I know) will ever read this, but I guess I'll join the 99.999% of people who post shit that does nothing more than occupy space on some hard drive.

1.How did you get into 29?
Echo & The Bunnymen
I am retarded for not listening to this band very much in the 80's. I heard The Killing Moon at the beginning of one of the best films ever, Donnie Darko. I really loved the song, but largely ignored the band for a few years, then went on a spree in 2006 that still rears its head from time to time. This is truly some of the best music to come out of the 80's, and Ocean Rain by far their best.
2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
Kings Of Leon
In most relationships and friendships I consider "good", music is a mutual love. I don't know who discovered them, but it was either Mere or myself. Life's sometimes a blur past 30. Because Of The Times is one of the best albums of this decade.
3. What's your favorite lyric by 33?

I almost never focus on lyrics as I played a number of instruments growing up. It is amazing I remember even this.

4. How did you get into 49?
Dishwalla
Like everyone else, Counting Blue Cars. Unlike everyone else, I still follow them today. If I had my wish, which is to have my entire life scrobbled, they'd be in the top 20. They are some of the best musicians out there, and J.R. Richards' gift is without compare. Opaline is a must have for any alternative collector. As far as songs go, if you put a gun to my head I'd have to toss up Miss Emma Peel, Nashville Skyline or Haze.
5. How many albums by 13 do you own?
Sevendust
Six. I've been a huge fan since their self-titled debut, Sevendust hit in '97. Seasons is by far their most accessible and hook filled album. I've seen this band live more than any other; six times believe. There's a reason for that: they KICK ASS live and most everyone I know who's seen them will readily agree. As usual, small venues are best, but they can rock large audiences +10k with the best of them.

Good question. Sad no, reflective, Fade To Black. I didn't get into them until ... and Justice For All (eternal thanks to Brett), and so went back to their earlier work in the late 80's and early 90's. When I (ahem) attended college, Ride The Lightning was always in my car's head unit. I was at odds with the Black Album upon its release, but it wears much better with time than everything later in their career. Death Magnetic kicks ass though, so I decided to get tickets to see them at The Sprint Center. I consider it a badge of honor that I've not been to the Sprint Center, yet I'm willing to break the seal for what is one of the best bands of all time.

Definitely Just Got To Be. Balls out bluesy stuff doesn't get any better.
9. What is your favorite song by 5?
Ghostland Observatory
Impossible as these guys are one of my favorites of this decade. I credit them for getting me back into electronic music in a big way. Piano Man, Sad Sad City, Stranger Lover, Midnight Voyage and Dancing On My Grave.

Again, I refuse to name one. Top 10 band in this decade, maybe all-time. Leaders Of The Free World is one of the most solid albums ever. Station Approach, Forget Myself, Picky Bugger, Mexican Standoff, Leaders Of The Free World
13. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
Greg Brown
I first heard him in 2007 when I was auditioning some Vandersteen 3A's up at Audioport. I ended up purchasing some Axiom M80 v2's, which are literally some of the best speakers I've ever heard regardless of price. It slays me how the 6.5" woofers can produce such a massive yet crisp low end. Anyway, I remember distinctly listening to Small Dark Movie from Further In right after getting my new speakers hooked up. I was overwhelmed with emotion; an event largely foreign to me. I used the track while auditioning my speakers for a guy who drove up from Oklahoma City. Like me, he was taken in by Greg's stupendous baritone and lyricism, and I'm sure now is a fan as well.

What is it with my all-time favorite artists and this one song bullshit? I suppose the fact that they're #1 on here or whatever isn't a bad thing. 17. What is the first song you ever heard by 23?
Pixies
I love this band so much. I never got the chance to see them the first time around, so I was ecstatic to hear they were reuniting for a 2004 tour. Francis has definitely seen better days, but they rocked our shit in Columbia. The drive back was super long that night. Where Is My Mind?. Both Nada Surf and Toadies have done stellar covers of this song.
18. What's your favorite lyric by 11?

In 2006 I saw these guys at the parking lot across from the Beaumont Club… Buzz Under The Stars. It was definitely one of the best sets I've ever seen, and I walked in there with very high expectations.

Jesus, why do I get the happy questions with melancholy bands and the sad questions with the opposite? Say Hello to the Angels This song so apes 10:15 Saturday Night by The Cure, but that's not a bad thing.
21. What is a good memory involving 27?
Foo Fighters
Without a doubt their show I recently saw at Kemper; the high point of my concerts so far this year. Dave Grohl is without compare when it comes to showmanship. Mr. Grohl, five years between visits is way too damn long! The setlist was a greatest hits extravaganza from start to finish. The only song I truly wanted to hear that wasn't played was the one that put them on the map, This Is A Call. The best part was when the band hauled ass across a 50 yard catwalk while an acoustic setup descended from the rafters. They subsequently treated us to literally hair raising acoustic renditions of classics like Everlong My Hero. I get goosebumps every time I think about it, and this show will always be in my top 10 of all-time.

Damnit! If my life were scrobbled this band would be much higher up the list. I saw these guys recently at VooDoo Lounge, one of the best venues for live music in Kansas City. I was about 10 feet from Richard Patrick for the set. Fucking amazing. How about one per album?

Skinny - Without a doubt one of the loveliest, most emotive tracks I know.
My Long Walk to Jail - nevermind what I said about Under.
The Wake - A solid track on a relatively mediocre album.

The Constant Lover These chick really kick ass. I had to do with just an EP for two years, but then it turns out their first full length didn't stike the same chord with me.

Without a doubt, Porcelain. By this time, they'd moved far enough away from the sound of At The Drive-In to have what I consider to be their own sound. Tensioning has some of the best shimmering guitar work I've ever heard.

Who cares if we have to wait five years between releases, this band has no peer. I was at party in 1993 and I distinctly remember someone throwing on Opiate from Opiate. Rock simply does not get better.

Brand New
The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me I saw these guys at The Beaumont Club; very tight. They played straight through for well over two hours. Early on it was straight up emo, which the tweens lapped up like fucking dogs. They redeemed themselves by closing out the set with almost every great track from their aforementioned opus.
28. What is you favorite song by 2?
The Ponys
This is definitely my favorite band that a lot of people don't know. I saw them at RecordBar in 2006. Their set was way too short, but it was pure unbridled post-punk energy.

Another band I continued to follow and love ever more after their fifteen minutes were over. There's no way in hell I'm naming a single favorite. Riding the massive wave of grunge for American Standard, and to an extent, Rock Crown, they eschewed that sound altogether in favor of straight up roots rock on Orange Ave., The Economy Of Sound and Dislocation and Day & Nightdriving.

31. How many times have you seen 17 live?
Gary Jules
Once, and I hope it's not the last. Gary is truly one of the best singer/songwriters to ever have lived. He is the consummate professional, inimitably gracious and I will always treasure his show from 2006. I saw him at the Grand Emporium for one of the last dates, if not the last, before they changed to being a hip-hop club called Zen. I recall buying tickets the moment they went on sale, thinking it would surely be a sellout crowd. Arriving early, we were greeted to a totally empty bar. It was so sad, there were maybe a dozen people that showed up. The upside was that Gary and his opener, Jim Bianco, both played sans amplification, oftentimes pulling up a stool right in the middle of the bar while the rest of us gathered round in a cirle, enchanted. Attempting further explanation seems trite and would only serve to denigrate the experience. After the show, both Gary and Jim mingled a bit and talked with most of us personally. Unforgettable experience.
32. Is there a song by 44 that makes you happy?
Collective Soul
They're one of those saccharin pop bands, so quite a few actually. I always break these guys out during the summertime. I'd rather have picked a sad song, but Gel, Breathe, There's A Way and Home are all great tracks.
33. How did you get into 12?
System Of A Down
Upon its release, Toxicity wasn't my super fave, but I loved tracks like Sugar (who didn't?). Toxicity hit in 2001 and I was addicted. There's not a weak track on that album. Their subsequent releases are stellar, if not a bit too on the radio friendly. Still, their best work IMHO is actually their outtakes collection, Steal This Album!. That shit's better than the best work of most other bands.

35. What was the first song you ever heard by 34?
Army Of Anyone
That'd be the first track on Army Of Anyone, It Doesn't Seem to Matter. I ended up having mixed feelings about this band, having loved both Filter and Stone Temple Pilots since day one. The STP sound was definitely there, but Richard Patrick sounded emasculated to me. I was so accustomed to his wailing and screaming with an industrial backdrop, that this album ended up falling out of rotation rather quickly. Why it's high on the list is a function of time scrobbling, or lack thereof.

37. How many times have you seen 42 live?
Band Of Horses
Once, and I really need to see them again. They opened for The Killers at City Market for one of the Buzz Under The Stars shows. The Killers really sucked ass that night, and I've never liked them nearly as much since. I believe they played a total of seven original songs, three covers, and then they reprised two of their biggest hits at the end. Pathetic. Band Of Horses was a study in contrasts. Their set was a lighter in the air singalong all the way through; one of the best shows of 2006.
38. What is you favorite song by 36?
She Wants Revenge
I can't express how utterly disappointed I was in This Is Forever, though She Wants Revenge was one of the hottest albums in 2006. For once I can name a definitive favorite, Us.

Waiting Room! This band and Ian MacKaye will always kick total ass. I highly recommend a documentary of theirs, Instrument.

Damn that one's tough, but that'd have to be Kill The Moonlight.

Queens Of The Stone Age
Hellz yeah, Feel Good Hit Of The Summer. Even passing fans of QoTSA should check out Desert Sessions, which are basically drug infested, generator driven jam fests out in, yes, the desert. A good amount of what you hear on these recordings ends up on QoTSA studio material, sometimes just riffs and sometimes entire songs.

Nada Surf
Well, I guess that depends on whether you're talking about Nada Surf 1.0 or 2.0. I still love High/Low, derivative as it was. Of their newer material, The Weight Is A Gift.

Another band I really need to see. I have way too many favorites - Phenomena, Man and Bang.
44. What is a good memory you have involving 46?
Dream Theater
My friend Paul got me into this band back when Images & Words was released. At that point I'd never really listened to much prog, hated Rush, and just didn't want anything to do with prog in general. So Paul kept playing Pull Me Under incessantly until I capitulated. I suppose on the surface it doesn't sound like a good memory, but it was all in fun. The details in prog really came alive on Paul's system as he had some badass Bose 701's back when they used to make decent gear. Funnily, Dream Theater and their offshoots like OSI are some of my most enduring favorites.

Masochists notwithstanding, are there going to be many people who can't think of songs by their top 50 artists that make them happy? Basically all of Gish, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. But to narrow it down, Frail And Bedazzled from Pisces Iscariot would do it for me.

Just one, actually - Clutch. I saw these guys at the Beaumont Club recently. They played a very tight set and managed to rock harder after almost 20 years than most bands ever will.

Very tough one here. I managed to see these guys early on at the Buzz Beach Ball a couple years ago. The mostly tween crowd was oblivious, preferring rather the likes of Morningwood… WTF? Don't Speak (I Came To Make A Bang!), I Like To Move In The Night and Whorehoppin (Shit, Goddamn)
