In a September issue of NME Magazine, Josh Homme stated that he was going back to make the new QOTSA and Desert Sessions records along with remastering the 1998 self titled album for an early 2009 release. Homme also stated Queens' new album is going to be a "desert orgy in the dark".

Yeah I agree, but I don't want to judge an album by its first single, because I usually don't like songs that get air time in swedish radio anyway. I basically only listen to "Bring 'Em In", but I kinda liked the last one so at least I'm interested in hearing the new stuff.

you may be right about The National, I just saw them on another 2009-list and added them. I read an interview with Arcade Fire at Pitchfork, in which Win Butler said that they've started working on their new album, but they don't know, nor does anyone else, when the album is due. But hey, it's a list of anticipated albums this year, so a couple is probably late2009/early2010, but I'm updating the list all year, so we'll see......

I'm always open for recommendations, and I can see why new albums from animal collective, grizzly bear and akron/family is huge for someone who likes the experimental stuff. I've tried (and failed) to get into all of those bands.........so that's why neither of them were listed.
But I think that Blikk Fang's debut album could be interesting to hear, and since you like MGMT you might be excited about Bikk Fang as well! -
