I guess the thing I hate about most fandoms is that they have this de facto protocol that you can never constructively criticize anyone, and if you do, then you're not a fan. It's like some sort of PR patrol: you can only say good things that make the artist look good and if you say otherwise, flaming, flaming, flame wars! I guess that's one of the many reasons why I've fallen out of metal recently (though a lot of gothic rock isn't different). Oh. And I mean "ear drums." Sorry. ^^;

Hi florian! It's nice to hear from you again! Sorry for the late reply (winter break for me was so hectic ^_^;). I pretty much agree with what you are saying: as bands grow in popularity, their aim is to remain as popular by any means necessary. I guess from a cultural context, people outside of Europe would consider these symphonic and gothic metal bands as underground so it's more shocking to us that they would change so much, but from what I hear, they're more mainstream than underground (but correct me if I'm wrong) so of course they're going to do the same as most other mainstream bands do.
