To be honest I haven't been much on last.fm recently either, I'm not sure if its due to either social circumstances in life or the cut down of things I like best on this site since the new version... but things are going more or less well. I say that, despite getting the mark back for my first piece of work from this year, so my response could potentially be at either extremity tomorrow night :p

Ah well, I guess there's enough of a choice left in this world to still be a tiny bit unique :) Literary sightseeing sounds lovely indeed, and I suppose in Britain you're spoilt for choice.. As with castles and stuff like that, you just seem to have it all really! And yeah I also seem to get to know about literary theory by bits at a time.. but then I don't really study literature 'full time', it's a part of the (interesting) mix of translation, literature, linguistics and culture I'm getting. But almost everything I'm taught seems to trace back to one little 'Glossary of Literary Terms' (well, the linguistics to a lesser extent I'll admit :P) I got in my first year, haha. I should just read that one from cover to cover, learn it by heart and be done with it - and go travel! :P

Yeah I also really like impressionism, or some impressionists or works at least. It's hard to really talk about paintings, especially since there seem to be all kinds of rules and theories involved.. I prefer just to stick to what I know by saying I like something or not, giving a few of my unprofessional reasons why - but then you could have huge philosophical discussions about that sort of thing, as with literature of course. I like going into those theories and discussions, but I don't like to narrow down my ideas because of conventions :) And I guess it's quite challenging to go abroad and find work there as well; of course you can never know whether they actually 'need' you, apart from the obvious wishes and ideas you may have. But then there's always something to do, and everything will always be different once you're there - it's all about learning new things I guess :)

Hmm, pity you won't be able to travel.. I have all sorts of plans, but I'm afraid the money will also be a problem. I really need to get myself a nice job and start saving a bit more for my huge pile of ideas.. Maybe I can combine travelling and working abroad in some way, I do hear stories about such things so it must be possible. I don't really know a lot about paintings either, but I am becoming more and more interested. I especially like the Jugendstil / Art Nouveau period, which I guess suits my literary tastes pretty well. :) Many people recommend the Lake District and I think it also was a popular destination in the 19th century, so I'll definitely go there!

Sobre mim
The Poet and the Bird
Said a people to a poet - "Go out from among us straightaway!
While we are thinking earthly things, thou singest of divine.
There's a little fair brown nightingale who, sitting in the gateway,
Makes fitter music to our ears than any song of thine!"
The poet went out weeping; the nightingale ceased chanting:
"Now, wherefore, O thou nightingale, is all thy sweetness done?"
- "I cannot sing my earthly things, the heavenly poet wanting,
Whose highest harmony includes the lowest under sun."
The poet went out weeping, and died abroad, bereft there;
The bird flew to his grave and died amid a thousand wails:
And when I last came by the place, I swear the music left there
Was only of the poet's song, and not the nightingale's.
