Fri 30 Mar – Comeback Kid, It Dies Today, This Is Hell, Endwell
I must say, seeing Comeback Kid was swell.
I'm not going to go in depth, and I can't tell you the set lists, but I will say it was pretty effin' sweet.
First up was Parkway Drive. I'm not going to say much about them, they were metalcore in the vain of every other metalcore band ever. I must say that they definitely belong in the top teir of metalcore music, but really nothing that special. Well, except for the fact that they spoke in Australian accents. This may or may not stem from the fact that they were in fact Australian...
A fight broke out during the end of their set, and it was like 20 people large, and it got so intense that it went behind the merch tables. I've never actually seen the march guys be in danger. Heh.
Next up was Endwell. Again, nothing I got excited about. As a person who used to be totally into metalcore, I can totally understand why people would love a band like this or Parkway drive, but I've just sort of grown out of this music. Not that I can't appreciate a good breakdown every now and then. But yeah. I was not terribly impressive. Definitely not as good as Parkway Drive.
This Is Hell was up next. And with them began the fun. These guys were high energy, and us Nashvillians responded. The stage diving began, and the sing-alongs began, and the pile-ups began. I even got my stage dive in. It was pretty fucking sweet shit. It was my first hardcore show since like December when Expired Youth was in town. And it was nice to see something that wasn't completely metal again. I think the best moment was when they played The polygrpah cheaters. I had never seen them before, but they are definitely fun to see live. They also gave a shout-out to Hollywood. Huzzah!
After that was one of Canada's finest: Comeback Kid.
Right from the start, Nashville exploded. There's still scratch marks on my backs where kids were climbing to get on Stage. All in a year was amazing, as was defeated. And of course, not Comeback Kid show would be complete without hearing Wake The Dead. Oh man, Wake The Dead was totally insanity. Just pure gnarly.
I will say that while Comeback Kid was better at the show, the kids were better when Comeback Kid played with Gorilla Biscuits. The crowd was much more willing to get landed on. But still, I must say that this show was freakin' awesome. And I would note that there were NO fights during Comeback Kid, unlike the metal acts.
I skipped It Dies Today. I saw them with Chiodos last summer. They weren't that good then, and I dig metal less now.
So yeah, it was a pretty sweet show. Yeah. Now I'm just waiting for Set Your Goals to play.
